The US enjoys some very impressive statistics. 50 states. 325.7 million people. 14,146 McDonald's restaurants. Oh, yes, and some truly wacky geography facts! Get ready because some of these geographic anomalies can be mind-boggling.
Do you know, for example, which state has the longest coastline? Top contenders could be Texas, Florida, and California. But it’s Alaska! The Alaskan coastline covers 6,640 miles and is actually longer than the coastline for the rest of the states combined! So if you love the cold sea and frozen beaches, Alaska is the place to be! Watch the video to learn which site to visit if you want to be in 4 places at once, how Americans can be trapped in Canada, and how everyone on Earth could fit into the state of Texas.
TIMESTAMPS:
Buildings in New York have their own ZIP codes 1:03
Alaska is everywhere 1:39
You can walk from the US to Russia 2:24
Canada in California 3:22
The longest river in the US 3:55
The shortest river in the world 4:47
The longest coastline 5:23
The tallest mountain in the world 5:56
Point Roberts - America or Canada? 6:49
Four Corners - 4 states 7:41
Border states 8:26
Texas is bigger than you can imagine 9:16

SUMMARY:
- Manhattan is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. It is so unbelievably crowded that there are over 200 ZIP codes in Manhattan alone! And there are over 40 buildings that are large enough to have their own ZIP codes.
- Alaska is pretty close to Russia. The state stretches so far west that it reaches into the eastern hemisphere. So if you want to experience the northern, western, and eastern hemispheres, simply head to Alaska!
- During the winter, the small area between Alaska and Russia freezes over. In the middle of the Bering Strait are 2 islands: Big Diomede is part of Russian territory, and Little Diomede is part of Alaskan territory.
- The population of Canada is 36.7 million, but California still houses more people than the entire country of Canada.
- The Mississippi River spans 2,348 miles. That’s like the distance from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Boston, Massachusetts.
- The US can boast about housing the fourth largest river in the world, but it also houses the smallest. The Roe River is located in Montana, and it’s just 201 ft long.
- Technically, the tallest mountain is part of the United States. Mauna Kea in Hawaii is an enormous mountain that’s about 33,500 ft tall.
- How can you be in 4 places at once? Just head over to Four Corners, a rare area in America where 4 states meet. Southeast Utah, Northeast Arizona, Southwest Colorado, and Northwest New Mexico intersect in a right angle.
- 2 states in the US don’t share borders with any other US states. Do you know which ones? If you thought of Hawaii and Alaska, you’re right!
- In New York City, the city stretches upward to make room for the 8.6 million inhabitants. If the world’s population lived in such a condensed manner, they would only cover 250,404 square miles.

Everyone would probably guess that Alaska has the longest coastline. However, most would not guess that, Michigan has the second largest in the U.S. and the largest fresh water coastline in the world.

Point Roberts is not alone: Northwest Angle, Minnesota, where a trip to the grocery store requires notifying border officials and then driving sixty miles each way through Canada to get to the nearest American town. Otherwise you need to jump in a boat.

Bright Side, there's a mistake on the Mississippi R., in that the Missouri R. beats it by about 20 miles. However, where the Mississippi shines is in volume of water, since it's a mile wide, though the Missouri is much narrower. The coastline of AK, if you count the coastlines of all of the tons of islands, plus all of the coves and inlets, in addition to the actual coastline, it gets to a whopping 33,904 mi (54,563 km). In addition to Pt. Roberts, there are 2 other disconnected places in the USA. First is the village of Angle Inlet in the finger of land that's called the Northwest Angle of Minnesota, which is north of the normal border that goes from Lake Superior in MN out to Puget (PEW-jet) Sound at Seattle. The other one is Hyder, AK, which is in the Panhandle, or Southeast, the majority of which being served by the State Ferry System. But being east of the Coast Mtns., it’s cut off, making a flight, or a 441mi./710km. drive through Canada on the Cassiar, Alaska and Klondike Hwys. necessary to get to Skagway--the nearest other town in AK by road.

He sounds like Casey because he is using a voice performance trick called "Ron Radio." He is speaking from the diaphragm. We associate that rich vocal tone with professionals in the industry. The fact that you associate this with Casey tells us more about you, than him. A different person might say he sounds like Rush Limbaugh, or Paul Harvey, or even Shadoe Stevens. They all did this because of radio.

Mistakes In This Video: 1. Mississippi River DOES NOT go through Florida 2. What even is the shape of Canada in this video? 3. 9:07 Ok so apparently Tennessee owns the eastern part of Arkansas now (zoom out Tennessee go back to your original size already) 4. 8:51 You mixed up Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska as you said their names 5. Point Roberts is next to Washington not Alaska (you zoomed in on Alaska -_-)

Two weird mistakes: 1. In the review of the population of Canada compared to California, the graphic you used for the outline of Canada is completely wrong. 2. In the review of Point Roberts, the graphic zooms in on the border between Alaska and British Columbia, instead of the border between Washington and British Columbia.

Another mistake: The video said Alaska was the easternmost state, but it left out the fact that the international date line, even though it doesn't always follow the 180 degree meridian, is what separates the eastern hemisphere from the western hemisphere, by international agreement. Accordingly, Alaska isn't the easternmost state--Maine is.

In a video about "geography", why can't BRIGHT SIDE can't get a country right? That shape with the Canadian Flag splattered over it, looks nothing like Canada. Had the UK been misrepresented like that, I'd comment as well. If the USA had been represented by a splotch shaped like Russia with the old 'stars and stripes' smeared across it, you and your fellow Yanks would be squawking up a storm. You mention a lot about Alaska and about Texas. Even make the point of Texas' size, being able to accommodate the entire world's population (at densities comparable to NYC) but don't mention that Alaska is more than twice as large as Texas! I read somewhere that while debating Alaska's entry to the US, Texas complained, not wanting to become the second largest state. An Alaska representative suggested they could divide Alaska down the middle and Texas could become the third largest!

Hey, everyone, in case you're not up on Alaska's geography (since it wasn't explained well), it's the easternmost state because of the Aleutian islands chain. That's what stretches into the Eastern Hemisphere. Actually the Mississippi River is the 2nd. longest in the USA by about 30 miles--to the Missouri River. It does, however, have a higher volume of water. Re. Alaska's coastline, if you take in the coastline of the islands, of which there's a ton, it's around 30,000 miles. Hawaii's mountain is pronounced MAW-nah KAY-uh, not KEY-uh.
