A heck of a lot of hills in Southern California, especially those between the inland valleys and the beaches of Los Angeles and Orange Counties are notoriously unstable. A slide occurring rarely has anything to with even very minor earthquakes. Usually about water. Be it rain, pools, water mains, or sprinkler systems. You can check the USGS site for any earthquakes recorded in the Rolling Hills area within a week of this to see if it might be a contributing factor.

Yeah, you can just dig a hole to get away from a tornado. With an earthquake, you're completely screwed if you don't have a safe way of getting in the air by helicopter or plane.

​@@gruntgamer4204or just go outside, like everyone else does during an earthquake. Get away from buildings and objects that which could fall and you're fine. That, and it's not just California. Oregon, Washington, even Kentucky, Missouri, Idaho, North Carolina, earthquakes happen all over the place. Not just in California. That, and due to the way that the geology of California is, earthquakes stay pretty centralized and only affect smaller areas compared to the earthquakes that are seen in the east. A 6.0 in southern California would only shake that small portion of California. A 6.0 in North Carolina would essentially shake most of the Eastern seaboard. And yes, they do happen in the east and are felt a lot further away than the ones in California are.
