For anyone commenting below who questions the accuracy or quality of the sound effects: RELAX! This video is perfect for viewers who just want to unwind, enjoy the sounds and be peacefully lulled to sleep. They don't care if the sound of the ropes, or sails, or anything else is perfectly accurate. (If they wanted realism, they'd open their eyes and look at everything going on around them in their own lives. And probably scream.) A commenter below made me think of the time when I explained to my elderly father how the old time radio shows in the 30's-40's did their sound effects. When I told him, as an example, that they used to bend a piece of sheet metal to create the sound of thunder.....he looked so sad and disappointed. I don't think he ever forgave me for ruining that illusion. (And I never said another word about any of it, ever again. Think of Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" who desperately awaited the arrival of his "Little Orphan Annie Decoder Ring" so he could decode that week's special message - only to discover that it was a "commercial for Ovaltine!") So, to anyone below who criticizes, think about that. Let people just enjoy it.

A little bedtime story for all of those sailing the high seas tonight... Long ago, when sailing ships ruled the waves, a captain and his crew were in danger of being boarded by a pirate ship. As the crew became frantic, the captain bellowed to his First Mate, “Bring me my red shirt!” The First Mate quickly retrieved the captain’s red shirt, which the captain put on and led the crew to battle the pirate boarding party. Although some casualties occurred among the crew, the pirates were repelled. Later that day, the lookout screamed that there were two pirate vessels sending boarding parties. The crew cowered in fear, but the captain, calm as ever, bellowed, “Bring me my red shirt!” Once again the battle was on. However, the Captain and his crew repelled both boarding parties, though this time more casualties occurred. Weary from the battles, the men sat around on deck that night recounting the day’s occurrences when an ensign looked to the Captain and asked, “Sir, why did you call for your red shirt before the battle?” The Captain, giving the ensign a look that only a captain can give, exhorted, “If I am wounded in battle, the red shirt does not show the wound and thus, you men will continue to fight unafraid.” The men sat in silence marvelling at the courage of such a man. As dawn came the next morning, the lookout screamed that there were pirate ships, 10 of them, all with boarding parties on their way. The men became silent and looked to the Captain, their leader, for his usual command. The Captain, calm as ever, bellowed, “Bring me my brown pants!”

Honestly though, imagine the existential dread of actually trying to sleep on one of these ancient beasts. The wood creaking sounds comfortable to us, but to the men on these vessels just one rivet cracking could lead to a cascade of the whole ship ripping apart under the constant stress it endures. And that groaning vessel is in the middle of the largest void on the planet, a seemingly endless ocean, with absolutely no chance for help should disaster strike. You are deeply alone, just you and a handful of surly men by your side. And there you lie in a tiny, itchy cot as lightning lashes at the horizon, thunder cracks, wood creaks overhead, and leviathan shapes swim just beneath you. Sleep tight :)

I grew up on sailboats. It's not really all that different. Boats speak--sometimes loudly, sometimes softly. There's nothing like the gentle rocking of a sailboat at sea or anchor. Later, when I was in the Navy the aircraft carrier I was stationed on passed through a tropical storm. You could see the boat twist slightly when standing on one end of the hangar bay looking toward the end. 3 days of that. The sounds were bit different. But man, I never slept better.

I remember when channels like this first came out on youtube and there are some even to this day that are not like this one. This is actually what a sleep aid is supposed to sound like. There are channels where it's nice and peaceful and right when you are drifting off to sleep you get blasted awake by a commercial 10 times louder than what you were falling asleep to. Now not only are you wide awake but you have to take a blood pressure pill since you are having a heart attack from having a jump scare over a loud commercial but now you have to get up and do laundry from making a mess in your undies and bed sheets.

Jacob... My kind of person! Listened to a guided sleep vidio once... imagine, your on a big rock near on a beach, (getting eaten alive by mosquitoes! Specially here in Texas!) Then you hear a voice calling you from the sea... so you walk towards the water 💦 and just put your toes in... (and try to ignore all the minnows nibbling on them!) And then as the sun sets, you wade all the way into the water... (which is freezing fn cold!) and then you dive in... (hitting your head on a rock) and as you float back up to the surface... (gasping for air) you see who was becoming you to the water... (your dead ex who wanted to drown you!) 😱 And now you're getting sleepy... 😴 NOT! 😡 😭 😁
