I know, I don't see him as the kind of person who would abandon a baby; he was always depicted as caring for his adoptive nephews Tom and Charlie, so why would he turn away from his own son? To be honest, I can't believe either of them would be so stupid as to have a baby they weren't ready for - no matter how cute daddy JP is.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that Craig, the one we know and love, would abandon JP and his baby. He seems to be the kind of guy that just needs to get his head around something before he can deal with it or he is forced to deal with it like he was with the JP/Sarah situation back in the day. I hope Craig comes around. If not I hope JP finds the happiness he deserves.

As I said it's not about emergencies. It's just a potential advantage in medical care throughout one's life to have the information, especially if you also know the medical history of your parents and their families. It's a shame to deny the information to the offspring, if it's not necessary. Nothing you can do with a complete foundling, but in this case JP could be tested, and they'd have the answer.

In an emergency, you may not have time for a paternity test, & perhaps neither potential father would be at hand or available at all. However, medically it's not for emergencies you want to know your biological parents. It's for knowing your genetic strengths and vulnerabilities / susceptibilities. You need to obtain this information while your parents are still around. It's also relevant for transplants to and from. You might also want to share the information with your spouse or spouse-to-be.

I think a child deserves to know who his biological parents are. Among other reasons, the information can be important medically.

JP and Craig are genetically unrelated. In terms of the medical advantages to an offspring there is no substitute for knowing exactly who your biological mother and father are.
