Congratulations on making it to the interview stage of the Chevening Scholarship application process. When preparing for the interview, there are some things you need to note and I share them here.

Thank you for the video! it is unbelievablly helpful. I really appreciate it! I am a candidate applying for Chevening from South Korea getting ready for an interview. I got some questions to ask of you. If you could help me out a little bit as a Chevening alumnus, it would be a lifesaver for a wannabe Chevener like me. 1) How long should my answer to a question be? - Considering that answers should be concise, I think 1.5-2 minutes per question would be appropriate, but I'm not sure. - How many questions will I be asked in 40 minutes? I think knowing the number in advance would be very helpful in allocating time to each question. 2) Can I use the story I already wrote on my essay when answering questions? - For example, if my interviewer ask me, "Why do you want to study in the UK?", the question I already answered on my Chevening eassay, would it be okay if I just memorise the answer I refered and preparing for a anticipated request for a detail about that? 3) How deep will the detailed quetions following main questions be? - I have heard that the main questions, like, "Why the UK?" or "Why Chevening" will definitely be asked to the interviewee, and there might be further questions regarding my answer. I would like to prepare for those questions but I am not sure how detailed will their questions be. Could you give me some example of your experience? This would really help me to anticipate what the questions might be. I sincerely hope you can help me! Thank you for your kindness :)

Hi, congratulations on being shortlisted for the Chevening interview. I am glad you find the video useful. Below are responses to your questions- these are based on my personal knowledge and experiences and do not represent the views of the FCDO or Chevening. 1. I think you should focus more on hitting the key points in your answer convincingly and in a concise manner. - I wouldn't necessarily put pressure on myself to focus on a specific time especially since you can't constantly be looking at the time/your watch. However during practicing you can try to keep your answers to 1.5-2 minutes like you mentioned; although it also depends on the questions and the nature of the question. - From my knowledge, there is no specific number of questions as there may or may not be follow-up questions. However, just keep in mind that questions on leadership, networking, studying in the UK and the career plan are mostly constant. There may be other questions. Again I think you shouldn't worry about the number of questions but focus on having answers to the possible questions they may ask you at the interview. 2. Yes, you can use the story you wrote in your essays as examples when answering questions. You may or may not add different examples- just put your best foot forward by using examples that you believe are strong enough to convince the panel; so yes, you can use the examples you used in your essays. However, I wouldn't suggest you completely memorise paragraphs and recite them out- some people may be able to tell that you memorised; also, you want to communicate properly since speech is different from written communication. With that said, do what works best for you (what you think would help you give great responses-people prepare differently). 3. Apart from questions like "Why the UK" or "Why Chevening," they may ask you some other questions like how you would manage your time in order to balance academics and extracurricular activities and how you will deal with culture shock, etc. Please note that follow-up questions will most likely be based on what you say. Remember that an interview is like a meeting/a conversation and some follow-up questions are based on the responses that you give (sometimes they may ask you to clarify a point). Therefore, I can't tell you for sure that they would ask you follow-up questions are what follow-up questions they will ask you. I hope this is useful. I wish you the best in your interview.

I have been watching your videos for the past 2 days and I am very grateful for all the insight and knowledge I have acquired about the Chevening scholarship since I will be applying this year. My question is I am applying for this year and the deadline is September and the UK universities academic year also starts in September, how am I supposed to start studying if I am yet to receive the scholarship confirmation next year. Again you are doing a perfect job with these videos, stay blessed.

If you apply this year (August to November is the window of application) you are applying for the 2025 Sept academic year. Read the website. It is very straight forward.

Hello, thanks for watching. The Chevening scholarship application starts a year before you begin your studies in the UK if awarded the scholarship. Therefore, you apply for the scholarship and to your universities this year and if you’re awarded the scholarship early-mid next year you can start your studies in September.
