I think the fragrance that’ll last the test of time for me would be Azzaro’s Wanted by Night. Every time I spray it it brings a smile to my face. Honorable mention would be a new pick up that I just made that I could see using for a long time is Trussardi Black Extreme. Unlike what the name suggests, it’s an aquatic fragrance with an undertone of sweetness from the plum. It smells like a much more pleasant and better quality Gillette aftershave.

The reason la nuit de l'homme is no longer a best seller is the performance. Who wants to buy a $90 bottle that only last an hour or so?! Otherwise it smells amazing. YSL intentionally watered it down thinking it could sell more bottles once the consumer ran out from multiple sprays. But it backfired because it now has the reputation of being too weak.

I own le parfum and have tested elixir. Elixir is actually similar to le parfum, but it is stronger, sweeter, and a little spicier, less powdery than le parfum. Think of it as a clubbing version of le parfum. If you already own le parfum, you might find elixir to be redundant as they kinda fill the same void in a collection. Personally, I’m holding out for discounters for elixir as I already own le parfum, but do what you want. They both smell great.

Tried Uomo intense on my skin at Nordstrom. I was very excited for it after reading up on it and watching reviews. Smelt like cough syrup. And my wife thought it smelt awful. IMO I was disappointed. But to each their own!

This is definitely a controversial topic as the "original" and "extreme" scents usually are best sellers for an year or so and then get forgotten forever. On the other side super linear and boring scents become never ending stories in the history - Armani Aqua di Gio, Davidoff - Cool Water, etc. So, it is not good=all time favourite, it will never be like this. And it seems that one of the worst (in my opinion) will live forever. My all-time-never-out-of-its-age is Chanel Allure

Yeah, I'd say that all not discontinued fragrances stand the test of time until they don't, something like Acqua di Gio or Le Male seem like they'll never be discontinued. For example, Dior Homme (the OG iris) didn't stand the test of time as it's been replaced by the 2020 version (a 15 year run) - so we can deduce that it's gone out of style. Fashion shifts, and there's a few on this list that will definitely go "out of style" (get discontinued - it's hard to be in vogue if no one can buy you or wear you) and sooner than you might think. Most of the people just vote for their favourites mixing things up so this turns out to be like a frag comm mutual wankery. Eros Flame? Srsly? Dior Homme Intense won't be around for much longer. Le Male Le Parfum? Probably gone in a few years. Valentino Uomo Intense is already disappearing. Gentleman edp Reserve Privee? Srsly? Boisee is already on the way out and this will follow in a few years. D&G The One Luminous Night is already unavailable for most of the world... People are utterly deluded.

I think you’re confusing discontinuation with region exclusive. The iris Dior Homme’s aren’t being discontinued, they just aren’t sold in North America. The One Luminous Night is a middle eastern exclusive. For whatever reason, Dior made the decision that North America isn’t interested in iris, so they pulled distribution and replaced it with a woodier and supposedly more masculine version. Generally, discontinuations are a result of poor sales or an issue with sourcing ingredients. If it were about what’s “in style” you wouldn’t be able to walk into a Macy’s and still buy a bottle of Calvin Klein Obsession at full retail.

Discontinuations happen when sales are poor, correct, that also says that the perfume isn't in style - since it doesn't sell. We can debate what "in style" means to you, but if it means anything other than what I'm claiming, it's simply wrong.
