I owned a ‘99 996 and the ‘04 40 Jahre 996, both new purchases. Although they were both 996s, they were completely different cars. The advancement/improvements over those five years was quite astounding. The 40 Jahre was the pinnacle of the 996! It was a great car. I miss it. I recall loving the unique five spoke polished wheels, the unique front fascia, side skirts, cool leather interior, and the power upgrade. Cool car! Thus began the love affair with GT Silver, too. I ordered my new ‘19 991.2 TT in GT Silver as well. Looking forward to your upcoming 40 Jahre video! Cheers/B

Great to read such a glowing report from a former owner who knows these cars. I wish mine had the polished wheels, alas they were refurbed 'as is' at some point and there's so much confusion out there as to the precise factory finish, I haven't dared change them. Hoping you're enjoying the 991.2 Turbo!

One thing with car vloggers is that you tend to do videos day in day out. Ive done some of it for R&D documentation purposes for my company and I feel that it disturbs me and my driving. Ok, the more you do the more routine it becomes. But, I’d say that it is healthy for you vloggers sometime just go out with the car without any rigging, just driving and living the moment. Because the videos are repetitive, the stories are pretty much similar, the phrases become similar - and sometimes as viewer you get the sense that he is talking like a sales rep. I believe it is good to earth yourself once in a while. Because it gives more you and as a consequence more to us. Im happy that you had some intimate time with your (other) 996. When I get some intimate time with my 996 my batteries get charged and I feel truly blessed. No need to show off to anybody. Just me, the car, the road, the scenery and the feel of easy motion. I need it and Im quite sure you too. You need some of your own instead of giving to others. One way or another this goes for all of us regardless of the profession.

Love the authentic money where you mouth is enthusiasm. I saw a 40yr at Bournemouth OPC a while back and it was a tempting proposition but instead i opted for a new GTS 4.O. I’ve never been brave enough to go with an older classic but perhaps someone like Paragon would be the safest route in. Be interested to hear your thoughts on how your 996 anniversary drives compared to the 4.0 that you recently reviewed ?
@9WERKSTV6 ай бұрын
Thank you Jon. I am aware the internet generally can be a place for pessimism to fester, so wanted to point out I'm not just talking a good game! The PC Bournemouth car was a good example, with 12-month warranty, but a GTS 4.0 is a great sports car, as you know. It's difficult to compare them with any conviction: one is a modern classic 911, the other is a new, mid-engined Porsche with lots of tech. If you're happy with your 718, you've made the right choice.

Great to hear from a fellow 40 Jahrer! I find the M030 perfectly fine on bumpy roads… though by comparison my other 996 runs KW V3s, which are super stiff.

I would love to see a comparison with the 40th anniversary 911 and the 986 550 Spyder. Same interior and released at a similar time, are they really so different?
@9WERKSTV6 ай бұрын
They are so completely different, I wouldn't waste anybody's time doing a video on it. One is a rear-engined 911 Coupe with Powerkit, the other is a mid-engined Boxster.
@kriskalpa6 ай бұрын
@@9WERKSTV but they're not really that different, are they? The 986 and 996 share a great deal, it is almost the same car with a different engine layout. No offence to your car! but it's not really that different from a Boxster S, hence the comparison. Paragon will tell you the same thing.
@Ty104446 ай бұрын
Lee, your car looks mint and obviously has been maintained to a high standard throughout its life. My question is with your car being 21 years old, would it be acceptable to expect (at your expense) damage caused during maintenance by main dealer/specialist due to the difficulty of removing age related parts?
@9WERKSTV6 ай бұрын
Thank you, it is a real minter. I wouldn't expect damage at any stage of maintenance or repair, that's why I use specialists who know what they're doing with these cars. However, I do expect age-related gremlins along the way, which have been well evidenced and documented with my other 996 'Little Irish'. Here though, with a comprehensive warranty, much of that drama is taken away - and the warranty is extendable beyond those first 12 months too. My contrasting ownership experiences with my 996s show both sides of the coin. The good news is we as consumers have plenty of options in front of us, as shown on this channel over the years, it's just a matter of making the right choice for each individual.

It may look clean but even with low miles if it’s had a lot of cold starts/short runs oil can be diluted from the rich start up mixture with fuel @ water can’t burn off if it rarely gets hot enough . Oil analysis would be the only way to know

This is the classic response of somebody who doesn't know these cars very well. If I'd have found an IMS bearing breaking up in the oil filter, it would have been the best money I'd ever spent! Not sure about you but I chase condition, not currency.
