2023 was WILD for my collection. I got a huge promotion so i was able to get so so many wishlist plants. I got two monstera Albo cuttings, an Aurea top cutting, a Thai, an adansonii Albo, aurea, and mint cuttings, a bunch of rare cacti, my favorite cactus spontaneously started developing a second head, and just so many wishlist plants checked off the list.

Thank you Melisa for another interesting/motivational video. It's great to see how much your plants have grown on their moss pole. Lovely collection and so nice to see there growth over the years. I didn’t know Calathea grow blooms. I love the Alocasia Jacklyn but i no longer grow these genes cause how thirsty and finicky they can get and there stems can flop over. Thai Constellation is my favourite with there stable variegations compared to the Albo and there white leaves can bleach and burn. I prefer the Thai Constellation with there heart leaves. Not mad about where there leaves split.

I agree, when you grow plants from cuttings, they feel like "your babies". so when you have to chop, it is like cutting off an arm or leg. Your plants are amazing. Question? I struggle with alocasias & throw them out a lot!! Are there any types of alcoasias that might be easier or hardier to grow than others????
@plantsbymelissa9 ай бұрын
The regal shields alocasia has always been an easier one for me and not as finicky. Alocasias love semi hydro and watering consistency - they really don't like to dry out all the way.

I’ve made the mistake of putting baby plants in a chunkier mix and it wasn’t a good idea so into peat moss they went and they love their lives again. I also did that with some Calatheas and the aroid mix wasn’t enough so they started looking terrible. What mix are you using for your calatheas? There’s no way it’s your aroid mix is it, it doesn’t retain enough moisture.

May i know how long does it takes for the baby anthuriums to grow into that size? Another question, can i grow baby frydek with one leaf into a pons?😅 or what would you prefer me ? Is it possible to grow a frydek in a Fluval stratum until it's grow into a big size?The pots used must have holes right?😂

I got a Jacklyn early last year that was rotten past saving but I did manage to save 1 corn. It has 2 leaves almost 3 and lives in a humidity box sitting on a seedling mat with a grow light above it. I have 1 corner of the box cracked but I'm scared to take it out into my crappy zone 7b winter. Would it be safe to leave inside until spring and how would you acclimate it to outside the box?
@plantsbymelissa10 ай бұрын
aw I'm glad you got a corm to grow back! You would have to acclimate it slowly from that higher humid environment. You can start leaving the lid open for a short time and keep doing that for longer periods. It will need good light as well so it doesn't shock too much. If your room environment is more cold and dry right now I would probably leave it in there until spring just in case 💖
@iamthegirlwiththeredbow810 ай бұрын
Question: Do you or did you have any issue with smelly moss poles, like once you enter your plant room, you immediately sense that old water, dirty damp towel smell? I love moss poles and like you have had great success with them, my variegated adansonii seems to love them, but my plants are in my living room and I feel ashamed whenever guests come in and smell that stench I was describing.
@plantsbymelissa10 ай бұрын
Sometimes when they're all watered at the same time I can smell a more earthy scent but maybe I'm used to it now haha. I just chopped and extended several of them this week so with the fresh moss I'll probably notice it a little but it doesn't seem to bother me. You can try to light a candle before guests come over or even some room spray if you haven't tried that. It might mask the scent some if it's really strong.

What works best for root rot, like how do you treat it when a particular plant keeps getting rot?🤷
@plantsbymelissa10 ай бұрын
What has worked best is re rooting it in sphagnum moss. I’ll cut off all the rot and soak the root system in water/hydrogen peroxide first. Sometimes I’ll replant it back in soil and they do fine but sometimes they’ll continue to rot so I sorta take it case by case I guess.
