Great video. Question: I have a Sony ZV1 and use it for my KZbin channel. Would it be worth upgrading to the ZV E1 if I only have it in front of me for headshot videos only? I just want a nice clear video.

@behindthetherapistdoor Thank you! Interesting question. Well, that'd really depend on why you'd want it and which on you think you'd enjoy best. Technically, what you have can give you a nice clear picture, you just may need to add more lighting with the ZV-1's 1-inch sensor to get a clearer image in your environment. There are two schools of thought I'd have in answering this question for you. 1) Get what you think you'd enjoy best and what would make creating more fun and easy for you. 2) Consider whether getting the ZV-E1 make things more efficient or more complicated for you when creating. I can't answer either of those for you, but I can share my reasons why I bought it, and hopefully that brings you closer to making the right choice for you. I make a ton of talking head videos myself and had the ZV-1 and ZV-E10, among other cameras, before. I personally went with the ZV-E1 because the larger sensor size meant I wouldn't have to feed the camera as much light in common recording scenarios I'm in, like when I'm traveling or certain indoor shots even at home. Secondly, it offered more features to help me as a creator than any other camera, which has made creating more efficient and more enjoyable for me. Lastly, it's fun. Could the ZV-1 and E10 do all the same things? Yes, just differently. The ZV-1 just might need to be fed a bit more light or overall proper lighting and that may be all you need to get the look you probably have in mind, but at the end of the day if you want the camera, get it and see how you like it. 😊 You can always rent it for a few days and see how you gel with the camera, and how it responds in your regular recording space. Then, you'll know for sure once you get your hands on it. BUT I would still say, make sure your lighting and white balance are in order first because you can get a sharp, clear image on the ZV-1 easily. Would it be worth it? That's something only you can decide because I think it's important to consider outside of efficiencies sake, what you think you'd personally enjoy. So, long reply to a short question lol but that's what I think. Hope that helps, and if you have more questions, feel free to ask.

I LOVE YOUR CONTENT. YOUR SO KNOWLEDGEABLE. I WOULD LOVE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE NIKKON Z30. ITS SIMILAR TO THE ZVE10 I WAS TOLD.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you're receiving value from the videos on my channel! I did try the Nikon Z30, but chose not to make any videos on the camera. It's not a bad camera but like any camera it has it pros and it's cons, as does the ZV-E10. Anytime you're comparing cameras and it's across different brands, I think it's important to look at the camera features and how they best meet your needs today, your creative goals moving forward, and the lens lineup you'll also be buying into as well. Some people buy a camera and it's their ride or die camera for the next 5-7 years, and they're perfectly happy. For others, it lasts for about a year or two, then they find themselves either hitting the ceiling of the cameras limitations or struggling to work around the cameras quirks and needing to buy a different camera. However, I can't see myself recommending the Z30 personally because Nikon just isn't a brand that has a focus on creating cameras that serve content creating entrepreneurs best, and they don't have the solid video autofocus accuracy and reliability in video. It has drastically improved over the years but still isn't top tier with Sony and Canon. I never have to worry about autofocus ever on my cameras, ever. Something like that doesn't sound like that big of a deal but in trying other brands, and optimizing the settings, etc. the camera still would drift in the AF at random times. I hate wasting time re-recording content delivered correctly, but the camera AF was off. I've experienced that before and it's just a non-negotiable with me at this point. I am definitely biased in my personal preference, but never in my recommendations to others. I recommend what I think is in the best interest of the person asking. Without knowing what or how you plan to use your camera, I honestly can't make a solid recommendation. But if it's in the scope of most of what I cover on the channel with a heavy emphasis in video, I would still lean Sony. The Z30 is a great start into more creator centric cameras at Nikon but the AF still has some accuracy issues in video, the APS-C lens line up from Nikon and 3rd party brands is weaker than brands like Sony, Canon, or Fuji. Lastly, Nikon's primary focus is photography first, not video and not video creators. So, if you want to continue your upgrade path from Nikon to another creator centric camera you have great camera options with them but they lean more photography first option that have some good video features. Versus a video centric camera for creators with photos features, if that makes sense. I would still say rent the cameras and try them for yourself and see what YOU personally like and gravitate to. If you try it and love it, stick with it. And to be fair, you can pick any modern camera and be well served because all the brands are doing a great job with the cameras, specs, and lenses they're offering. It's really only small things that make the difference between choosing one or the other. Create your list of must have non-negotiables and choose what you think will best serve your content needs and goals today and over the next 2-3 years, has the lenses you would want to use or need, and a solid upgrade path of making the cameras you could see yourself growing into as a creator. A super long answer with a simple suggestion, but I wanted to also make sure you have the proper context on the issue as well, especially since I chose to not make any videos on the camera after trying it. But if you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

@DianaGladney that mam was super detailed i appreciate it. I got the z30 because i wanted a camera for content creation. The zve10 was having a chip shortage, and the cameras that were available had an enormous upcharge on amazon and eBay. I seen a few videos on the z30 and decided to pull the trigger. The auto focus can be a bit wonky, especially in low light or changing light, for example, going from a dark space to a light space. But i feel the camera is going to be good just gotta go through the settings and tinker around a bit. Sony and cannon are basically good out the box. But im out my return window, so i figure may as well work with it until I can get it how i want.

I'm just starting the video now, but before I forget (Forgive me if you answer this in the video) - but I have a ZV-E1 ... I record 10-bit slog3 cine gamut etc.... 4k ... I want to know - Am i being silly by taking the SD card out each time I want to open the video file on my computer to view it / check it? Or is there a way to connect wirelessly from my mac to the camera to transfer the file?

Seeing it on the computer is the way to see the best quality of whatever’s recorded but if you’re doing a simple replay, you don’t need to do that. The playback button in the rear of the camera will show any videos Ken photos you’ve taken. And no, there is no wireless way built into the camera to natively send it to the computer. The fastest file transfer for videos is still using an SD card reader into the computer.

I think when the creators are experimenting with a brand new line of cameras. They throw the kitchen sink at it. Make it cheap so alot of people are going to buy it. Then they pick and choose the most used features for their next camera. But the original is just too good.

Yeah, I think it's super smart for them to do that because they want early adopters and to make sure that new release idea or concept is received well. Then, if it's not lol they'll know something's really off. Funny enough, the ZV-E1 was the right camera for Sony to convert someone like me to full frame. The A7S 3 and FX3 are undeniably awesome, but not for me. The ZV-E1? Me all day lol So, they got it right with the ZV line.
