The V bombers were designed to deliver nuclear payloads over the eastern bloc and Russia. They where not meant for defensive roles. Also I’d say Britain was involved in the Cold War. Edit: spelling.
@bluesrocker914 жыл бұрын
The V-Bombers probably would have been among the very first NATO aircraft to drop nuclear weapons on the Soviet Union had it all kicked off.... Someone should have told those RAF pilots who spent hour after hour on QRA not to bother, since Britain "wasn't involved".
@markstanbrook55784 жыл бұрын
By his definition of ‘directly’ neither the USA or USSR were involved either. The UK had many different V Bombers and Intercept fighters that have all been consigned to the scrap heap. Had the author done more research he would have focused on the Lightning interceptor which was a technical marvel deserving of as much reverence as the Blackbird gets.

Segafishy. Not entirely true, the Vulcan to the Sky team restored XH558 and made her airworthy but they had to have backing from Rolls Royce, British Aerospace and Marshall Aerospace. The three engineering firms are required to give the CAA the relevant information regarding the airworthiness of the aircraft, obviously RR give the CAA information on the engines, BA supply information on the airframe and Marshall on the avionics and the likes. XH558 had more hours on its airframe than other Vulcans, the engines likewise so they were heading into an unknown, the engineering firms couldn’t accurately predict if failure of critical parts was likely. As soon as one firm started to make noises about the unpredictable nature of the aircraft the other two fell into line, it was the lack of an airworthiness certificate that grounded XH558. She will never fly again, another engineering firm could take over responsibility for her but they wouldn’t be allowed access to BAs or RRs records as they are confidential and won’t be released by the originators. Sad times for one of our most beautiful aircraft ☹️

It was the Vickers Valiant that suffered from fatigue cracks and had to be withdrawn. This was after the West had to change their attack profiles from high altitude to low level as a result of Gary Powers getting shot down by an SA2. Low down the turbulence is far greater than the Valiant was designed for. The Victor outlasted the Vulcan in RAF service and was thus the last of the three types of British nuclear "V" bomber in service. The Vulcan, serial no. XH558 that was the last to fly in 2015 was privately owned.

He meant operationally as decommissioned from RAF service. The last Vulcan, serial XH558, was decommissioned from RAF service in 1992. In private hands XH558 flew again in 2007.

The pronunciation is so laughable! Such as Liege in Belgium. And that's not CCCP, but SSSR, as it's written in Cyrillic alphabet.

You should revise your knowledge of Britain,it's not good. They would have been the ones selling both sides weapons, giving information both true and false. They make an extremely good friend and a very bad enemy. A good 50 percent of British exploits have kept quiet either intentionally or being modest,the other 50 is anyone's guess.

Garret were the makers not the owners. And it's not part of a train. It's a portable engine to power tools, possibly huge crushing mills.

The Handley Page Victor was not affected by fatigue cracking. That problem was experienced by the Vickers Valiant.

Correction: The letters on the side of the Aircraft where SSSR, however, painted in Cyrillic which reads CCCP! Suggestion: Before listening to your own voice, conduct some research. It may help to get more credibility!

No. They were Cubana Airlines owned by Cuba. Russia was not involved. This guy didn't do any research.

Felix Niederhauser absolutely correct soyus sovietski socialistica rupublica ( English phonetic to Russian) as you said all the words that start with a “S” in English use the Cyrillic “S” which looks like an English “C”. And the English “R” in Cyrillic look like a English “P”. The Russian word soyus translates as union in English that’s how in English the English acronym get a “U”, English U.S.S.R, Russian C.C.C.P.

@@jeffcamp481 My brother was there during the 1983 invasion. And I was a Ranger and saw many pictures of those planes in the AIRBORNE and RANGER Museum's. Russian writing was under Cubana. I guess go don't get that it's been sitting for 36 years in a tropical jungle climate. So unless you've been there or seen photos circa 1983 I don't k know what to tell you.

'The British were n't directly involved in the Cold War'??????????? Who wrote this? Trump? However, always a good laugh hearing an American struggling with English and unfamiliar foreign place names. AVOID,
@tonyf7565 жыл бұрын
Wherever did you get the idea that Britain wasn't involved in the cold war? Remember, Britain was home to numerous US strategic bomber bases, which would have made it a first strike target. All British military forces were part of NATO, which would have been the first responder in the event of an attack by the Soviet forces. Learn your history.

The steam “locomotive” is actually a traction engine. Even a cursory web search for Richard Garrett & Sons would tell you that. R Garrett & Sons built it, likely for export, they didn’t own it and lease it with the expectation of getting it back. Besides, it’s a piece of pre-combustion era agricultural equipment, not a railway locomotive.
