The Aquarama sat for some time in the west end of Windsor,Ontario,Canada. My friend was one of the security guards that watched over her. He gave me an inaugural cruise booklet he found onboard and I still have it to this day. It shows the ships deck plans, pictures of main passenger areas etc. It even has sing along songs in it for festivities. I was sad when I heard she had gone to the breakers.

The Ekranoplan wasn't just "a plane that could take off on land and water" - that's just an amphibious plane (like the PBY Catalina). "Ground effect" is where the wings' lift is greatly increased by closeness to the ground (or water). It only needed tiny wings to "float" near the surface with high efficiency and speed. Never caught on though.

I remember when I was kid. Going to the Outer Harbor in Buffalo and seeing the Aquarama sitting silently next to the old Cargill’s Grain Elevator. It’s so sad to see that it had to end its life in such a way. Boy, do I miss that ship. If you've ever lived in urban area, it's not all buildings, and streets. You have a odd bit of land left alone, and trees will grow there. As kid in Rochester N.Y., I would hoof-it everywhere. To save time, I would walk path, and rail road tracks as short cut. I was walking downn the one rail road track, and for some reason cut through a batch of trees. In side the trees was a clearing with a bunch older car parked there. They all looked like family cars, and none of them were locked. All the tires were flat, and the car were a bit sunk in the ground. All the cars were from the sixties, and seventies. Most of them had things in them like keys, and registrations. There was a scattering of clothing, mostly sweaters. and coats. A few had woman's clothing, like they took everything off, and just left everything. A few hand coins in the car, and I found one purse. The perse had folding money, and indentification. I kept the money, and the woman's driver's license. It was so odd. It was like someone just drove someone's car out to the woods, and parked them there. This was around 1999, or 2000. I never thought about then, but I do know.
