Places I want to go in Japan A place that every Japanese person wants to visit at least once in their lifetime. The Imperial Palace (Chidorigafuchi Park) during the cherry blossom season, Ise Shrine, Izumo Taisha, Nikko Toshogu Shrine, the sunrise at the top of Mt. Fuji, and Kyoto Kinkakuji Temple We are looking forward to seeing you all. If you want to easily enjoy a day, we recommend the Hato Bus tour departing from Tokyo Station! Rent a pocket Wi-Fi at the airport before your trip!

Very nice list of places to visit. I've been to 7 of the ones in more urban settings but I'll have to get off the beaten path a little more on my next trip. One thing that usually isn't noted is that in the late summer (thinking about that now since it's so hot out now) and early fall before the snow falls, Mt Fuji completely loses it's photogenic snowcap, but I guess that makes it easy for hikers to easily get up to the summit without major problems. A couple of other places that I think deserve spots on the list are Matsushima and Amanohashidate which are listed along with Miyajima as the 3 most beautiful places in Japan. They are about 3 hours by train from Tokyo and Kyoto respectively, so long and expensive day trips if you don't have a rail pass which are expensive in their own right. Maybe worth an overnight stay if you are on a long trip. Another couple of interesting places that may or may not appeal to most. First is Tottori, which has some huge sand dunes along the Sea of Japan as the main attraction, Asuka which was one of ancient Japan's early capitals, and has a number of amazing stone artifacts spread around the town. Also, I like to stay in Fukuoka and use it as a base to make day trips to places like Hiroshima/Miyajima, Nagasaki, etc in western Japan.
