I am Japanese and I found this video by accident. All of what were explained in this video are right and useful when you’re gonna visit Japan. Japanese stations are so confusing as even Japanese people are often confused with it, so you should look at navigation boards when you’re in Japanese stations. Don’t worry even if you can’t read Japanese. Most of the navigation boards have English translations so that people from overseas can travel or live comfortably. Enjoy many attractive places and the culture in Japan!

@@jzbuff86 Sorry for the late reply I think you should stay at the hotel. Actually many Japanese people can’t speak English ,so if you were lost, many people wouldn’t be able to help you navigate. At most of Japanese train stations, we have to go up and down stairs to get the tracks and it is really embarrassing to do that with large luggages. For first time visitors to Tokyo: JR commuter trains are easier to understand than the subway. If you have a Japan Rail Pass, it is accepted on these trains. There are two subway systems with separate fares. Some friends of mine bought a day pass for Tokyo Metro and found out the hard way that it wasn't good on the Toei lines. JR's Yamanote loop line is the most useful. It serves almost all the major business districts and if you miss your stop, you can stay on the train until it comes around again (it takes about an hour to go all the way around). Other useful JR lines are the Chuo, Keihin-Kyuko and Sobu.

'Airport luggage delivery service' is just not discussed often enough in these KZbin videos and travel vlogs so thank you very much for making it your first point. I'll be travelling from Kansai Airport to central Kyoto next year with two LARGE suitcases AND two check-in bags, per person and it looked mysteriously and infuriatingly difficult to figure out. There was no way to travel with all that baggage via the more commonly recommended commuter trains and buses. Unlike in Tokyo, airport shuttle services in Kyoto only go to train station destinations rather than the direct door-to-door hotel drop off, which is the vastly superior option when you have luggage as stated earlier. I still can't figure out why this is by the way. I'd been researching the conundrum I faced for many months and then came across this video whilst eating dinner tonight, and 'ping'! the lightbulb went off. Thanks guys! Airport luggage delivery service it will be. Brilliant. Ahhhh, now I can get back to the stress-free parts of my research :D

I really recommend figuring out something for internet, as number 2 said! Japan is getting better about it, but wifi is not available in a lot of public places, especially if you don't have a phone with one of Japan's 3 major carriers. Also, don't count on being able to charge your phone while you sit in a cafe, as there often aren't outlets available for public use (including at the airport). You can buy cheap portable chargers from the convenience store, but if you already have a nice quality one at home, be sure to bring it.

All useful advice, informed my planning. On JR Pass - I would suggest booking your shinkansen seats when you pick up the JR Pass at the airport (assuming you have planned your journeys). Also got a visitor IC pass from the same place (no 'deposit', so no need to return at end of journey). Note the IC card works outside of tokyo inc. kyoto. There is an train time app that shows what routes you can use your JR pass on, to maximise it's use - much more than shinkansen inc. Miyajima Ferry! For mobile data - you can pre book a mobile wifi router. Like a powerbank, but you connect to highspeed data (multiple devices) - just remember to drop off before you go through checkin at the airport!! Yes use luggage lockers at stations, but on the bigger stations really take note of where the lockers are as they can all look the same!

I didn’t find the Limousine Bus from the airport an expensive option. In fact, it was a very reasonable, nay cheap, option that was incredibly useful for me because it stopped at my hotel. When arriving after a long flight, it’s really nice to be taken directly from the airport to your hotel and not have to figure out the train (and any subway connections) for the first time. Not to mention, you are guaranteed a seat and your luggage is safely stored below for your whole trip so you don’t have to worry about maneuvering your luggage in train stations. If you have large luggage and don’t want to ship it to your hotel because you need it, the limousine bus is really handy because it’s easy to take your large luggage with you directly, saving money on the luggage services. ETA: for anyone with mobility issues (like myself), the Limousine Bus is a godsend as you do not have to worry about stairs or even just lugging your luggage down long hallways. And you don’t have to worry about figuring out the right exit from a station that has multiple exits since you are dropped off on the surface and can orientate yourself better. Note though, I don’t think you can be in a wheelchair as you do need to board the bus. Also for those considering taxis due to age/mobility issues, the limo bus may be the better option if you are in a small group but have a lot of luggage. You may think you could get a taxi for four people and the cost is not too high split 4 ways. But then you realize the taxi can barely hold half of your luggage so you would need two taxis. In which case, riding the bus to the bus stop closest to your hotel is a good option because it can handle a lot of luggage. And if you really need further onward transport from the stop, local taxis will be much cheaper than ones all the way from Narita.

I've been building up a KZbin playlist of stuff for my potential Japan trip next year with my dad. First time going overseas since I was a baby (I'm 20 in October) and that was just Australia.

Nice itinerary and well explained. I also recommend checking out Hiroshima and Miyajima Island on your first trip too. Very achievable if you're on a 14-day itinerary.
