I don't know if I understand correctly the use of 去 in the sentence 你最好别去当电灯泡 . If three people are sitting and suddenly one of them notices that no one is talking to her and uses the above sentence then gets up and leaves. Then she can apply the whole sentence but without 去. Am I thinking right?

Yeah you don’t have to have the 去 in this sentence. 你最好别当电灯泡 is correct as well
