Hundreds! Arguable the best tasting fruit family in the world. Hard to argue in my opinion, am yet to find one I didn't love.

Just bought 2 similar small plants that were made by Steve but sold by an unprofessional lady. Currently nothing grows with only 2 half yellowed leaves remaining, so I realised they should have been grown under the shade cloth in the past, so they haven't sunlight hardened yet, and the seller should tell this to the buyer when selling them!
@mytropicalfruitforestlife2 жыл бұрын
Garcinia's do grow very slow. And yes most small plant's need shade cloth as they are not hardy enough to tolerate full sun. Hope yours survives. Good luck.

@@mytropicalfruitforestlife By far achacha is the easiest garcinia to grow down here, almost doubling in size over summer, survives winter in a greenhouse. Imbe and mandruno have remained on pause for the entire spring/summer, purple and yellow mangosteen went bye bye quick.
@mytropicalfruitforestlife2 жыл бұрын
@@RealLifeFruitopia Purple is very difficult even in Brisbane. It's very fussy needs hot humid climate. I agree Achacha is very hardy. I don't bother to protect the small seedlings here over winter anymore. It's brilliant and tastes so good too!

No SEQLD, up north is the place you want to be to grow them. Ask around different nurseries they stock them here. Otherwise check facebook groups. Plenty sellers there. Good luck :)

I am so confused, Garcinia Humilis, that looks to be synonymous with Gardneriana. And what about Intermedia and Brasiliensis? Are they synonymous? Can anyone shine light on this?
@nataliacontreras55492 жыл бұрын
Ibacurú - garcinia macrophylla Bacuripari - garcinia benthamiana Bacupari - garcinia brasiliensis Bacuri - platonia insignia ( Amazon related and similar taste to the garcinia macrophylla, but much bigger size “giant”)
@mytropicalfruitforestlife2 жыл бұрын
Bacupari wikipedia says Garcinia Gardneriana. Brasiliensis everyone calls the standard or superior Lemondrop Mangosteen no?
@nataliacontreras55492 жыл бұрын
@@mytropicalfruitforestlife from what I understand from the experts in Brazil, the true bacupari is Gardneariana, but there another variation which is also called Bacupari but is Garcinia Brasiliensis, but lemon drop mangosteen is definitely garcinia intermedia

Bar the squat and Peruvian mini I have all of those garcinia and from Steve aswell. I plan on grafting male and females on both forbesii and Rsw but I do have 2 of each of those. And the plan for all of mine are to stay in pots. With a good system in place they should all be able to fruit in pots. Good luck on yours!
@mytropicalfruitforestlife2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, good luck to you too! Pretty game of you to try keeping them in pots. Where do you like, you'll have to watch watering if you live in a dry hot climate. I'm not at the grafting stage of anything yet. Still accumulating haha Expecting a couple grafted plants soon though, so hopefully I can have some fruiting in a year or 2.

Great instant garcinia collection!! (From Steve?) Do you think you got a male and female RSW? Totally agree that the taxonomy of garcinia is so mixed up, eg as you say madrono by Daley’s is actually intermedia! My grafted Lucs hasn’t done anything since I got it but they can be slow..
@mytropicalfruitforestlife2 жыл бұрын
Yeah Steve again. He said male and female, but I already have 1 grafted female russels sweet from another bloke so I should be sorted. I've had it for 1year now, was slow for a few months, and looked fine over winter then as spring came it dropped off its only 2 leaves. Has bounced back now with 2 sets of leaves and some lateral shoots starting to push out. I have a Madruno Rheedia that JUST set a ripe fruit. I ate it... definitely intermedia. I think that was a different nursery tho, not daleys so everyones mixing them up.
@sydneyfruitgardening2 жыл бұрын
@@mytropicalfruitforestlife the RSW are temperamental. Mine, from someone else, didn’t do well and died. The female looked on the way out upon arrival, perhaps didn’t enjoy the trip through the post. The male survived winter but dies in spring. I moved on to other garcinia after that!! Too expensive lol.

Isnt Mundu Garcinia Dulcis? whereabouts are you based?
@mytropicalfruitforestlife2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is, but Xanthacymus also known as the yellow mangosteen essentially has the exact same looking fruit and tree. Same shape colour leaves etc. Both are more on the sour side, so I'm not 100% on them. I need to try both fruit myself to compare one day.
