Great video, as a Costa Rican it is great to see the love you have for my country. As an avid hiker, my experiences of the Costa Rican countryside and mountains are great, you can find small towns, forests, agricultural fields and life, great food and coffee and architectural heritage in relatively short distances. San José downtown has lost most of its heritage since the 50s, and was previously a very attractive city, however there are areas, like the axis from Barrio Escalante down Barrio Aranjuez, Barrio Otoya and Barrio Amón, the area around the Paseo de las Damas and Nacional, España and Morazán parks, and from Nacional park to the Supreme Court and the northern part of Barrio Luján which still have beautiful architecture. I have been to Bahía Drake, but haven't been able to visit Puerto Jiménez. I can say that Bahía Drake is paradise: the hike from that to San Josecito beach is amazing and it is a great base for guided tours to visit Caño Island and sectors of Corcovado National Park as San Pedrillo and Sirena, where you can spot a lot wildlife very easily. For me, the most scenic way to arrive at Bahía Drake is arriving to Sierpe (which allows to see the 1930-1940s architecture of Palmar Sur and visiting the World Heritage Site of the Diquís culture at Finca 6) and going on a boat from there to Drake. The boat ride back from Bahía Drake to Sierpe was just after sunrise and the light was more than ideal for photography in the Térraba-Sierpe National Wetland, the biggest in the country (even more than Tortuguero or Palo Verde).

Well done! The only exception that I would have is characterizing the Osa Peninsula as having some sketchy people. I have been to almost every town in Costa Rica, and have lived in Heredia (next to San Jose) as well as near Puerto Jimenez, and I can say with confidence that the Osa Peninsula is one of the least sketchy places in Costa Rica. If you want to see sketchy, go to the Caribbean side or hang out in Tamarindo, Jaco or San Jose after dark.

OMG!! That is so awesome!! My brother lives in San Jose, Costa Rica (gated community) and he has a condo in Jaco right on the beach. And you are right when you say if you want to learn how to surf, go to Jaco. For $5 bucks you can rent a surf board right on the beach. The waves are more rough in Playa Hermosa. I visited both places by the beach when I was there, after spending a few days at his house in San Jose. So much to do and so little time. The sun rises and sets the same time everyday because the country is so close to the equator. There is no way I would rent a car and drive there, though, you are brave to do so. There is a reason they try to charge you $500 bucks for rental insurance. I can't wait to see more videos on your trips there. Have fun!!

I've seen people try to make it as "locals" in CR since I was 6 years old when my own dad had this need to "escape" by jet setting each year to CR to surf. They eventually all make it home though, one way or another, my dad died in 2011 in Tamarindo and came home in the form of ashes inside one of those clay pots you see the vendors selling to tourists on the beach. Ironic and truly heartbreaking but I will leave you with this: Life is short, spend it with the ones you love, you don't need to run away from your family to experience life. Experience it, but don't leave your family waiting.

Fun video and great tips! I love the waterfalls. And a beachfront apartment for $100 a night sounds like a great deal.
