I hope you enjoy Addie and SOA! I think both get a bit overhyped, but they are good books. Night Circus! Intrigued to hear your thoughts! Starless Sea has a bit more plot, but it’s v much about stories themselves. That’s a shame on Never Let Me Go! The twist was wild to me lol.

I loved Evelyn Hugo and song of Achilles. Good omens was okey, couldn't get into piranesi and pride and prejudice is just a nice classic.. Hope you like more of them than me😄

I clicked because I saw Malice and Valor separated from the rest of Gwynne's books in the thumbnail. I don't know why I noticed and I have begun questioning what led me to this point in life but the video is good so I don't regret it.

I totally thought secret history was a book you loved already 🤣 I feel like you will like it solely based on how people talk about it because I haven’t read it. I think you would like the night circus! Which I actually have read lol. OMG THE PRINCESS BRIDE!! It’s one of my all time favorite books. It’s SO FUNNY. I loved spinning silver too! I enjoyed Never Let me Go but it’s kinda depressing. I also have not read Evelyn Hugo 🤣 shame on us!

I have Addie Larue on my shelves, but I’ve been holding off because ‘The Sudden Appearance of Hope’, which deals with a VERY similar premise, came out first and was really good. IDK if Schwab stole the idea, but I’ve been waiting for the other book to fade from my memory a bit before reading her book so I could give it a fair chance.

Great list of books. We have similar tastes. I received Addie LaRue for Xmas and I have 2 books to read ahead of it. I have Circe on my bookshelf and hope to read it soon, but I have heard that Song of Achilles is better. I listened to the audio of the Secret History 10+ years ago. Think I need to read a physical copy. I read and liked Night Circus. Not sure I would say it's plotless. I would like to read Starless Sea soon. I loved the Princess Bride movie and own the book. Future read. Piranesi is a book I wish to read. All these books have risk. We just have to take chances. Started Never Let Me Go and never finished. I think I may have moved or something. Do want to start over and read it as I still have my copy. I read Daisy Jones & the Six, which has me interested in Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Plus I've been watching lots of Best of 2023 book videos on KZbin and it has been on many. Enjoy your reading!

I was also spoiled for Never let me go (watched the movie before I knew it was a book) I will say reading this knowing the spoiler almost enhances the reading experience (like without going into spoilers for those who don't know but it almost felt like knowing the spoiler embedded the whole story with this looming sense of dread) Also excellent choices - I have quite a few of the same books on my TBR so hope we both get to them this year and have a great time with them!

I read Pride and Prejudice and since you said you really like historical fiction, you will wonder why you haven't picked up this book earlier. Seriously. It deserves it's praise. By a lot. I would suggest reading the book first. Because if you watch the movie first you will not understand certain parts of it. I am not saying you are not intelligent enough. It's how the movie was made. I watched it after reading the book and when I talked to my mom and sister about it, I said "If I haven't read the book I would be like what is actually happening here." While making the movie they probably thought that EVERYONE will read the book FIRST and THEN watch the movie. None the less, the movie was good too. Good luck with your reading goals in 2024! 😊

I am clearly in the minority but Addie LaRue made me furious. I wanted to slap everyone in it. I raged to my book club all night about how much I hated it 😂 Same with Night Circus. I need a plot! Or at least interesting characters. Princess Bride is so magical. It's my favorite book of all time. Weirdly my favorite parts are when Goldman talks about his "real" life. I read it for the first time on a park bench in the rain. It wasn't raining when I started, but I couldn't stop reading. I really like Madeline Miller's books, but as far as Greek retellings go, I gotta say Natalie Haynes is more my speed. Miller is more emotional, Haynes is more satirical.

Neil Gaiman was learning from Sir Terry Pratchett’s craft at that point. That was the point when their friendship started. If you dig a bit into how this book was written (Neil Gaiman interviews) it is quite impressive. It is before the age of internet so they didn’t use any other tool but phone. So imagine that. Really you should hear it from the master, Neil. Of course it’s important to know that both writers have way better books. That is Discworld in any day way better than Good Omens and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman or any other groundbreaking book is telling more of his craft. But probably Sandman and American Gods. That being said, both are brilliant writers so this is a fantastic read. And I strongly recommend to spend a short time to read at least Guards Guards or Equal Rites from Discworld if you never read Discworld before. These are short books but the old man did something we won’t forget.
