1- You see and hear the guy saying it. 2- You see the words written in Neapolitan 3- The Italian translation 4- The English translation Everything so clear and plain. This experience has been truly satisfying, eye- and ear-opening, and managed to explain to me so many things about the nNapulitano language that I heard from childhood (NYC) but never quite figured out. You guys are great. Thank you.

He's not from Neaples. I can be sure about it with listening just two sounds of his pronunciation. :-)
@AaroneStefano
@AaroneStefano 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not from Naples city centre but I'm from a little town in Naples area. The difference is so little that only a native or who knows accents and shades of the language could hear the difference. Good job on your listening! Are you a native speaker?

@@AaroneStefano Yes I am. That's the only reason I wrote this. I love the richness of neapolitan language and of course I love different pronunciations from other areas of Campania region. Congratulations, guys for this creative pedagogy of our precious language. I try to do something similar in my music and in my books. Stateve bbuoni.

Why is he saying that it’s only spoken in and around Naples? I was always under the impression that different forms of Neapolitan were spoken in the whole “foot” of the Italian “boot”, except for southern Calabria where they speak Sicilian. Is he implying that those other regions have “made the switch” to standard Italian?
@AaroneStefano
@AaroneStefano 4 жыл бұрын
Artem Ploujnikov Yes he meant Naples and the region of Campania, but they would probably understand some words in the "boot of Italy." But all of the regions have the own language and dialects. Is that any more help?

@@AaroneStefano I think it probably boils down to classification. It's not that they don't speak the language anymore in, say, Abruzzo or Puglia... It's more a question of whether they'd call it Neapolitan. International linguists, UNESCO, Wikipedia, etc usually classify all the related dialects of the former kingdom of Naples as dialects of a single language that is distinct from Italian, and they tend to call it either Neapolitan or (less commonly) "South-Italian". But what I hadn't realized before is that. speakers of, say, Abruzzese might see their language as being distinct from both Italian and Campania Neapolitan - a bit like, say, Valencian vs Catalan.
@AaroneStefano
@AaroneStefano 4 жыл бұрын
@@artemploujnikov6227 Yes, exactly, you have hit the nail on the head! People from different regions of southern Italy, can mostly understand the Neapolitan spoken in Campania, the regions of Naples, but the further you go from Campania, the more the language starts to change and has its own characteristics which is a little bit different in vocabulary, some pronunciations and expressions. But generally it's easier for those who comes from the south understand probably more than someone who could come from for example Northern Lazio or from the North generally. I hope that I have clarified it a little bit better. Thanks for your thoughts and questions. If you have anything else to ask, please feel free to do so :).

You drop the vowel, a lot like Brazilian Portuguese. Why does the D become an R? I don't get that.
@AaroneStefano
@AaroneStefano 4 жыл бұрын
The D with a vowel generally becomes the R sound. That's why sometimes you can hear the R instead of the D. Whilst I drop vowels because it's one of the main characteristics of Neapolitan and like you noticed, the language shares some characteristics similar to the Portuguese language ;)

@@AaroneStefano Grazi assaje! Does the letter T always make a D sound?
@AaroneStefano
@AaroneStefano 2 жыл бұрын
@@synkkamaan1331 In Neapolitan the T sound is always T but the pronunciation is close to a D respect to the T sounds pronounced in English for example.

Molto interesanti i tuoi video, se posso permettermi comunque il tuo parlare non è proprio napoletano "autentico", il tuo accento mi sembra piu salernitano. Complimenti
@AaroneStefano
@AaroneStefano 4 жыл бұрын
Comunque grazie ancora e spero potrai goderti i nostri video.
