@Draxila225it's just an ad, he's basically reading from a script, not giving his opinion. I imagine they probably wanted him to do an overview or something but chances are he said no since he doesn't like gachas. Either way, I've got nothing against creators getting sponsors, that's how they're able to keep doing this.

@Draxila225 if he did a review on a gacha, then yes I would agree and question integrity there. But a scripted ad is whatever, 60 seconds of a vid and he gets some dough for doing it. I'd do the same thing.

Man... this 1st quarter of the year has provided me with nearly 500 hrs of gameplay already, and that is only coming from 3 games. Granblue Fantasy Relink, FFVII Rebirth and Unicorn Overlord. Truly excellent games. One of the highlights for each game for me are the characters and their interactions. Rebirth with its excellent character writing and interactions, Unicorn Overlord with its rather numerous rapport conversations and Relink just from the moment to moment gameplay. I'm blown away with quality of each games and most definitely worth the full price.

I have to say about Granblue Fantasy Relink,30:50 - 31:03 not only is there a change in mechanics with later versions of the same boss (the core fight is the same but things are added to make them trickier), but there are a bunch of bosses beyond chapter 0 that are unique to the postgame.

I compile the games in to one place for viewer convenience. A lot of my audience like both JRPGs and visual novel/hybrids, so I've got no issue talking about them here. >Skies of Arcadia >Slow Disagree on that one. Most animations can be skipped by pressing start button and random encounters end before they even begin. It is not Grandia 2 where all spell animations are unskippable and take ages to complete Random encounters are not that bad either. I recently played Wild Arms 5 for a bit and it has pretty comparable encounter rate and just as fast paced combat which makes sense because individual battles are short and do not require lots of brain power to win. As for the story and characters, yeah, they are great. It is really surprising when plot in JRPG does not fall apart in the last act and the game actually gives you nice and satisfying ending that manages to resolve all existing plot threads
@obake62906 ай бұрын
Yes, the difficulty with the time limits in these older Atelier games really just comes down to trying for different endings, especially the true ending as that typically involves meeting the requirements for all the other endings in one playthrough. Just getting through the game shouldn't be stressful at all. But if one is the type to go for different endings, many of them are funny and cute and worth seeing. Totori is amazing and was my favorite for a long time, followed by Rorona. They were only overshadowed when I finally played Escha & Logy. Those are still my top 3, and seeing the direction recent games are taking I think they will remain there for a long time to come. The Bravely combat is system is quite nice for a JRPG. Simple yet strategic. I also love the inclusion of a Job system. I did play the first one, though I never finished it. Just never quite had that story or character hook to pull me through, despite loving the mechanics. Never tried the sequels, but I hear BD2 is excellent. It's also on PC so I may give it a shot one day. Great selection of games here. I gotta step it up myself as I feel like I've hardly played anything this year, and definitely nothing truly great aside from replays of Mega Man X and Final Fantasy 6 via the pixel remaster.

Beat Infinite Wealth and Tales of Symphonia (alongside my usual FFXIV grind) so far this year. Infinite Wealth was a personal 10/10. Really something different for me, but I'm playing through the Mass Effect series on a friend's suggestion and so far it's really solid and entertaining. Bravely Default and Second are great games that both have some really big flaws, hard to recommend personally, even if I really loved the FF5 job system they had. Curious to know what you'll think of them.
@Starkride486 ай бұрын
I'm glad you played the AI games! I loved the first game so much that it stayed in my head for years after I beat it, and the second one is great too. Uchikoshi is probably my favorite writer in games when it comes to humor and character-centric drama. He excels at writing mind-bending and sometimes disturbing plots while inserting the right amount of humor to endear you to the characters. AI can be so dumb but in the best way possible. I highly recommend you play Zero Escape if you haven't, 999 has one of my favorite stories in games.

Fun fact, the brave system was the model used for the boost system in Octopath traveler/2, and you can see similarities between the original bravely default & second with Octopath Traveler and Bravely default 2, interchanging jobs/passives or the abilities there in between each of the games respectfully (one example would be how insanely busted apothecaries are between all the games.) Bravely Default 2 changes a lot compared to the original, like random encounters are removed and replaced by monsters on the overworld, adding counters for the enemies, SO MANY BOSS THEMES (most if not all of them are very good), no airship (or at least in the conventional sense), and many more Though i do miss the old system, where you could actually manipulate the encounter rate, from 200% - 0% with 0 cost, making it fun for challenge runs or if you need a quick boost in JP/EXP, whichever fits your mood. I'd recommend playing final fantasy 4 heroes of light first if you're able, then Bravely Default afterwards and ending with Second to end the Bravely Default story. Admittedly i havent played 4 heroes of light to completion but it was fun for the time i played it. but enough ramble, glad to see BD2 being talked about!

Personally heavily disliked what they did with Bravely Default 2. They took such a unique and well done combat system in Bravely Default and Bravely Second just to ruin it by slapping generic ATB turns on it. It's definitely an ok game but the originals are so much better. All 3 have standard jrpg cliche plots but they do have some jammin music as well. It sucks that even less people will play the originals now thanks to them shutting down support for the 3ds. Unicorn Overlord is my GOTY. Could say too much stuff about it. AI The Somnium Files is also pretty amazing, wild narrative ride especially in the second game. Uchikoshi took the wild aspects of the narrative in the first game and ran headfirst with it in the 2nd, which was interesting to see.

Sadly bravely default was pretty mid for me. Generic story, combat got super tedious, and so so much grinding
@TheKisekiNut6 ай бұрын
I see people mentioning it had lots of slow grinding but I just don't get it. Maxing out the jobs was easy enough, and it made the rest of the game trivial in terms of difficulty (still fun though).

My problem with Bravely Default 2 (as a Bravely fan) it's the lack of meta content. Bravely Default 1/Second were so good for that. I don't like that we explore only a big continent by foot in Bravely Default 2. In BD1/Second there is airship exploration. The English voice cast in BD1/Second was quite better. The Job class selection in Second was far more bigger and original. BD1 was quite a revolution in the jrpg scene because it was one of the first jrpg that you can control the random encounter rate (0, 25, 50, 75, 100%). BD2 also lack a lot of original plot twist. Still a 7/10 for me, but I don't see why I would replay it. PS: I recommand Chained Echoes. 😁

I was not a fan of Bravely Default 2 or the series in general. I personally felt the characters were extremely weak, plus the overall story was not that interesting. One of my main reasons for this is in fact the class system, which I am not a big fan of in any game, but especially ones where every character can be everything. Part of what makes a good character is what they did in their life that shows in their character progression. If a character can be everything, it just kind of makes them a shell with emotion thrown in. The other problem I have with be everything class systems is they are the most limited form of combat in any game. They give you choices, but in the end there is the right choices and the others that are just fodder for minor passive skills etc. Also because of the many classes what your class can do is usually very limited and simple making them some of the most boring to play. It's the very difference of what you pointed out between grand blue fantasy and most class base systems. Instead of being a fun play style for everyone, all classes are boring and lead to picking the ones that are most efficient. On Another note, talking about Nino Kuni 2, this was a love hate relationship for me haha. This felt like a game with a ton of potential, but everything felt half-assed, or they just didn't put in the extra effort to tie everything together to form a more cohesive game. Instead of improving upon the first one, which I do think the game systems do if they were better implemented. Everything just feels like they gave up half way or something. Sorry for always seeming so negative, I could just say Unicorn Overlord was good and Chrono Trigger is timeless! But everyone will say good things about good games they liked, it seems pointless to me lol. One thing I can say if you enjoy tactical games try "Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery" I personally enjoyed this game more than Unicorn Overlord as it has both a great story and extremely tight tactical gameplay. Since you have so few different characters to play as they perfectly designed to deal with what you are against. Can't recommend this little gem enough.

Yeah there ain't no way i'd like Totori given what you said. I hate time limit games with a passion. They ruin my experience, they ruin the whole point of why I game in the first place.

I do not understand why granblue fantasy relink is so beloved. I got so bored by the repetetive grind and the monster hunter approach. What do you mean it has so much to offer? it's literally just: take quest, enter arena, take quest, enter arena. I really don't get it. The only fun thing about it was the combat. But it was mostly just bossfights. And the upgrade stuff was just a tree to go down...sorry for that. Wanted to let it out. Just fascinating to me how others think and get excited by stuff.

It has the same appeal as Monster Hunter. Wonderful gameplay that remains interesting with small tweaks and changes to patterns. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea (the stories in monster hunter games are….well they’re just bad mostly), but it the gameplay is engrossing enough it will keep people engaged for hundreds of hours. Like you said, it is ALL about the combat and that’s enough for a good number of players judging by MH sales. Kind of like a fighting game but different.

@@johnathanrhoades7751 yeah...I guess. I love monster hunter though. But this was so dissapointing. Maybe I was just hoping for a real jrpg. No idea

Looks like that Unicorn is a plagiarism for a Fire Emblem.

It’s more like Ogre Battle than a Fire Emblem game. Quite a different feel.
