12 Similarities Between Marvel Rivals and Overwatch

I'm super excited for Marvel Rivals but many have been calling it an Overwatch Clone. Today I'll discuss the similarities people have pointed out on social media and give some of my own feedback as well. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section!

Same with some of the other arguments. Wow what do they want, Hulk to not jump and punch people? Do they want Iron Man not to be able to fly and shoot rockets??? This is such dumb reasoning because Marvel heroes have existed long before Overwatch got popular and will exist long after.

To sum this up 1. Its PvP 2. It has heroes with different abilities 3. The game has a colorful 4.maps have objectives? 5.similar abilities He keeps comparing marvel rivals to over watch but these.criteria can be applied to almost every team based shooter in existence, and marvel rivals style does not look like over watch just because it has bright colors, marvel rivals has a much more comic style art direction as compared to overwatch's cartoon style

Yeah, ofc games will have similar mechanics, because that's the style of the game. It's the same as saying that CS is a copy of Rainbow Six, but they're just 2 different games with the same style

@@leonardoabrantes9599 Nah, comparing R6 and CS isn't a valid point. Counter Strike is a very different game. It's more like comparing it to older Call of Duty games. Rainbow Six isn't a basic shooter like CS is. Comparing Rivals to Overwatch works because they're the same genre. It's like comparing Overwatch to Paladins you know the same genre. Or even Overwatch and Team Fortress 2.

Nah, playing the Alpha and some characters are straight up blatant copies. There is being similar and then there is straight up ripping off. One of the Devs made their own character and it is a 100% blatant rip off of Lucio. Luna Snow she is a K-Pop idle who plays music and skates around at speed. She is a healer and her Ult she dances and slides around with Music playing while it heals. You can switch it from Healing to a damage boost which changes the song. Magneto is straight up Sigma. Iron Man is Pharah. He has a wrist rocket that boops. He fires chest rockets. Hulk is D. Va without guns. His Ult turns him into Winston without guns. He legit dies as Hulk and turns into banner who has a tiny pistol he runs around shooting until he can change back into Hulk... His Ult turns him into a bigger glowing monster who runs around waving his arms around... Sound like someone? Lol. There is even a Datamine for characters that are in the works like Cloak and Dagger being a single character. Dagger heals and can switch to Cloak to deal damage and debuff. This is a 100% ripoff of Hel from Smite. Starlord runs around with two guns out while moving like Tracer, his E does Reapers Ultimate, and his Ultimate lets him fly into the air and lock on to enemies with a Visor... He's straight up Tracer mixed with Reaper using Soldier 76s ult. Punisher is pretty much Bastion as he turns into a walking minigun with some rockets... You got Skarlet Witch who has D. Va's ult in the form of an aoe that auto kills everything in a line of sight within it's range.

@@coryv5679 Overwatch, paladins, Tf2, they have all copied from one another, the original point in the original comment is that there is no merit in comparing marvel rivals solely to overwatch when clearly most team based shooters reuse abilities from other games. And the point about the art style still stands, it is not similar to overwatch just because it is bright it has some distinguishing features such as the team up mechanic and destructable terrain along with the marvel IP so they aren't just taking lucio and putting him into the game directly without adding their own twist first.

I would love a gamemode like the arkham multiplayer, 1 hero vs 6 goons, the goons must perform a heist or something, and the one who manages to reach 100 points within the match first gets to transform into a villain

at this point. I do not care if they stole it or copy paste mechanic, artstyles, etc. I really want Marvel Rivals to really become direct competitor to Overwatch. There were multiple hero-shooters games before this, but none were up to par with Overwatch. This game has to happen big. I hope their dev team is good too.

Another thing in comparison to Overwatch, despite similarity in styles. Marvel heroes and lore are well recognised by many people young and old. but Overwatch? after 8 years long, do ppl in general really recognise the lore behind overwatch heroes in and out? Years of clues, but none were truly clear what they are all about.

Also, Since it is NetEase, I am predicting 💰💰🤑. Depends on how they milk wallets, I hope they are not aggressive as in locking multiple heroes at a cost.

The post shown at 1:02 is a blatant lie, the post was written in March but the closed alpha doesn't start until May, and there was no other closed alpha at that time, the only way anyone had played the game at that point is if they were involved in the development of the game, which that person clearly isn't, please do better research

I played Overwatch for more than 3k hours so this looks good to me, mainly 'cause I can't play OW2 as Blizzard effed it up, BUT I'm very sure of something, ANY Character in Marvel is way better developed than an Overwatch character, because you know, Marvel characters have an actual story

Hulk jumps and punches. Iron man flies and shoots rockets. Doctor strange can create portals. Omg rocket racoon uses a gun 😮. Peni Parker is in a mech???? Aside from Peni, these heroes have been around long before Overwatch and will be around long after Overwatch shuts down. Its kind of disingenuous to imply they are a knockoff because they are adding some of their heroes most iconic abilities to the game just because Overwatch came out earlier. Do you want Hulk to not have a superjump or throw punches? Just because Winston and Doomfist came first? Do you want Iron man to sit grounded without his laser because thats too much like echo, or his missiles because its too much life Pharah? Do you want Loki to not copycat people? Idk this is kind of rediculous. I'd get it if the characters looked similar or were from a new IP and lazy, but this is Marvel. I havent been a fan of their movies lately, but I still respect they had some awesome and iconic concepts that had to make it into the game.

Currently playing the Alpha with currently 15 hours played. Yes, most of the characters are straight up ripoffs of Overwatch characters. Magneto has a shield he uses in front of him. He gathers up small round metal things to throw at people. His ult he flies into the air and shoots a big metal object at people that knocks them back. He's clearly Sigma. Luna Snow plays music and runs on ice skates. Her ult plays music as she dances and it heals people around her. Straight Lucio rip off. Iron Man shoots a wirst rocket that knocks people back. He also fires chest rockets. He is a Pharah knock off. Hulk when he dies turns into Banner who has to run around with a tiny pistol shooting at people until he can change back straight D. Va rip off but without guns. His Ult changes him into something like Winston as he grows larger and starts to glow and he knocks people back with his attacks. Punisher's ult turns him into a walking minigun you know similar to Bastion. Skarlet Witch is 100% Moira as her basic attack auto locks on and is energy that syphons damage from the closest enemy. She phases and floats around and doesn't take damage while doing that. There was even a Datamine recently because of the Alpha which has unreleased characters and their abilities. Cloak and Dagger will be added and they're 100% a rip off of Hel from Smite. They're going to be a Single character light/dark. Dagger as Light heals, Cloak as Dark damages and Debuffs and does aoe dark attacks.

They forgot the most important part if they wanted to capitalize off overwatch. The reason overwatch is so successful and i still dont get how no freaking company has clued into this yet but its the fact thet took the classic double jumping ninja archetype you often seen in 3rd persom action games and they put it into a 1st person comp shooter, along with tanks and supports giving players a chance to play their fav mmorpg role but in 1st person against other players. So without the 1st person aspect, is it really even overwatch? If they forgot the main secret ingredient that made overwatch stand out so much? And while yes its a preference, its more like a preference of sugar in your soft drink, yes some may be in that weird market where they love the taste of coke but not the sugar so they buy the knock off 0 sugar kind but if youre trying tk tap into the coke, pepsi, rootbeer market than youre putting sugar in your drink lmao

Choke points, high ground and playing for objs are concepts as old as Rainbow six Vegas and Counter strike. Blizzard didn’t come up with these concepts, they just used them. Just like marvel is.

Hopefully it's a casual game that doesn't try too hard to be competitive. Excited to finally experience 6v6 again though. Also, looks like Marvel Rivals is gonna have way more mobility. "Overwatch Clone," what does this mean?! People called Paladins (a vastly different game) exactly this, and as a result, people have unfairly relegated that game as an "inferior" title. Speaking of Paladins, Marvel Rivals, if anything, feels more like a spiritual follow-up to the OG version of Paladins: third-person, vibrant, and fast-paced. The gameplay also reads a little bit more like Fortnite, ngl. Not Overwatch. Not every game tries to be Overwatch, not now when it has completely lost any of its remaining shine.
