I wish the Maker and 616 Doctor Doom interacted one or two more times. The biggest reason why Doom hates Reed is because he knows, deep down, that Reed is smarter than him but he does less with it. 26:00 It's important to note, Marvel Zombies isn't an alternate version of the Ultimate Universe. It's an alternate universe to 616. Which just makes this harder on Reed, because nothing the Zombie Reed said was a lie regarding the family or anything, it's just that after getting zombified, well, it didn't end well. Ultimate Reed learned what his 616 Counterpart's life was like, but then also saw it all destroyed. And Ultimate Magneto isn't even a Holocaust survivor or anything, and is much more evil. So he's even seeing the root corruption of his entire universe for the first time, and seeing how there's universes where everything was better on their Earth. And it _still_ ends in horror for them.

And there's the obvious visual parallel of Peter and Liz to young Reed and Sue there, too. It probably fucked with him deep in the back of that traffic cone of his. Peter has a foundation trait of goodness from his father mentor (Ben NotGrimm.). Even the happiest childhood of Reed doesn't share that inate selflessness somehow... it has to be learned much later than Peter had developed it. He's literally an embodiment of what typical Reed would be like with the support he gains from his f4 family. So it's a perfect choice no matter what one who's legend he extinguishes first.

You are dead wrong. Batman Who Laughs is and always was ment to be fusion of Joker and Batman, and not just be "evil Batman". Same as Red Death was ment to be fusion flash and batman or Drowned was fusion between batman and Aquaman. DC always toyed with idea of hybrid characters ever since rebirth dropped. Konfusion is recant example of it. If anything it is the Maker who is Marvel's version of Superboy prime. Let me explain: There are few universal truths in comic book verse. One of those is that superman is THE ultimate hero. No matter the age, no matter the writer, nor the universe or multiverse; Superman is always canonically the strongest. It is a universal constant in DC. On the other hand Reed Richards is always the smartest person in each Marvel universe. The council of Reeds proves it. And the character of SuperBoy Prime is a play on this dynamic. The story of: what if the ultimate man had no emphaty. A deep envy for a perfect life he was not allowed to live. He starts fighting a one-sideed crusade for a bygone multiverse vs EVERYONE. A development which the Maker is no stranger to. (Best exeplified in the video.) The SBP is stronger then Superman because he never holds back. The Maker is smarter from Richards because he cast his morality aside. Richards and Superman put their brilliance aside to take care of their family, while SBP and the Maker both lack that love in their lives. Simply put: They are nostaligic for something that does not exist. The constuct of the City and Cosmic Tuning Tower is ment to matrialize that "nostalgia". Closed off space to create a "perfect" reality. The Maker is clearly inspired by by the Superboy Prime not the Batman Who Laughs lol. BWL is actually based of off different character called Judge Death from 2000 AD comics.

"The Maker" works so well because 616"Mr.Fantastic" Reed Richards has always had questionable, or problematic aspects to his character that were always downplayed or overshadowed by his good side. But there are things like the idea that (after retcons) he could have always cured Ben or knew that Ben could control it but didn't say anything, and instead, he chose not to as a way to teach him something. The council of Reed's (alternate versions of himself) are all of them are versions of Reed who abandoned their families to work with other versions of themself, doing things that include capturing versions of Doctor Doom from around the multiverse to make them brain dead vegetables they keep in a giant basement. The Maker doesn't feel like a 'Batman who Laughs' type of character, or even a villain from an extended "What if?". He's the same Reed we know already, born under different circumstances, who shows parts of himself that we normally wouldn't see, as if 616 Reed has just as much potential to become The Maker.

I think that the one thing above all that made sure that 616 Reed and 1610 Reed ended up on different paths was that 616 Reed was responsible for the accident that created the Fantastic Four. That lesson in humility keeps him grounded. 1610 Reed never learned that lesson. He almost did, but the blame went away too soon for it to set in.
@ashweston182820 күн бұрын
Mainline Reed caused the accident out of arrogance, so assured of his own intelligence that he never considered that it might go wrong until it was far too late. Ultimates Reed didn't cause the accident. His calculations were correct, his safety measures were sufficient, he did everything right. It was someone else who ruined everything. It was someone else who caused the disaster. The accident teaches both Reeds a very different lesson. One learns humility, to not be so assured of the inherent rightness of his assumptions. The other learns that other people make mistakes, not him. He learns that others shouldn't be trusted, and that if he can just do things his way without interference, everything will be perfect. One becomes a hero. The other, a monster.

In personality, in drive, in thought process, this is 616 Doom's double from 1610, not the Victor of that universe. Even The Maker knows it. That's why he makes 6160 Reed take on the identity of Doctor Doom. It's his own self-awarness personified in another. This Reed is the reflection of himself, a reflection of Doom. He makes Reed into Doom because he is Reed who has become Doom. Even The Maker's disfigurement is a mirror of the 616 Doom. Doctor Doom hates Reed Richards, and The Maker hates Reed Richards, so he makes Reed Richards into Doom so he can perceive it as something other than self-loathing. Note also 6160 "Doom" Reed's color scheme. Blue cloak Doom. This story is reliant heavily on the multiverse and echoes. A Doom deposed from his place in the world by a secret alliance of the ruling class which pretends to be rivals? A Doom who must band together with others to save the world from domination? A Doom who has been displaced from time, whose memory is spotty at best? Doom 2099. Doom 2099 becomes what Doom always said he would, and proves himself the true hero of the universe. Doom 2099 is the savior of 2099, the big good of the timeline. The Maker is _so_ smart, but he doesn't recognize that the multiverse is like poetry. It rhymes. By making this universe reach the same destination as the 2099 universe and intentionally creating his own Doctor Doom, he has created this universe's Doom 2099. In the end, 1610 became 616 Doom, and 6160 became the Doom of 2099.

I would also state that Reed in the ultimate universe is coping the way he killed the fantastic four is quite literally the most petty and vengeful form. He knows hes like doctor doon that speech about Reed destroying everything he loves is just comfirmation Reed knows he is a piece of shit but he cannot cope with this. Everything with children of tomorrow and this is for the greater good but the maker casted his humanity apart. It also must of stinged to hear a version of yourself that has everything you wanted say he would erase you from existence.

I heard the new Ultimate comics were good, and went to check them out- then I got smacked by how good of a villain the Maker is and how tragic Ultimates #4 is. I like how Ultimate Doom is in many ways an inverse of the Maker as well as a version of Doom- he was genuinely sabotaged, but instead of being arrogant and insisting he did nothing wrong Reed felt guilt which was only exacerbated by the torture. 6160 Doom does have his cold aspects and is obsessive, but it's over his mistake and how much he wants to fix it- yet it isolates him and leaves him lonely, unable to develop new friendships because he's so consumed by the pain of the past. I'm really interested to see where it will go from here. It gives me a hankering for some Fantastic Four comics, which I've never been really into before.

49:24 Oh come on, what's a little genocide for a Marvel character? If Magnus does one more, he gets a free ice cream and he gets to lead the X-Men every other Tuesday. Heck, 616 Reed has done genocide (Planet Hulk) and _he_ doesn't get held accountable beyond getting beat up by the World-Breaker. Tony Stark was a part of the same genocide, then he became Dick Cheney, and _he_ got to be redeemed. Ultimate Nick Fury got a do-over and he did a genocide to the Supreme Power universe. Heck, Peter friggin Parker did a genocide once. They were symbiotes invading Earth, but we know symbiotes are sapient beings and Peter _did_ go well and truly beyond "I have to kill for once" to "alright Eddie, it's genociding time". Why is The Maker the only guy who can't get a genocide or two?

The Maker is honestly a really refreshing villain because it's not just a stereotypical it's Reed Richards but he is evil! like a lot of people like to make him out to be when summarizing his character. It's someone we got to see experience constant issues with the world from his home life to even the parts of the world he loved most that being science disappointing him his dream location was a let down, he travelled to a alternate universe only to discover it was completely destroyed, he feels like he is letting down Ben constantly because he can't figure out the original combination to cure them, etc. Which is why he develops a sort of god complex like The High Evolutionary where instead of accepting the world for what it is that being full of flaws he is convinced since he is a genius he should remake the world to be perfect with him attempting to do it in the original Ultimate Universe, Battle World & now the new ultimate universe. With it being interesting that he even asked Miles if he would be interested in "returning home" rather than just leaving there himself because why tf would a villain ever ask a hero who is always going to do the right thing if they want to join them?.

So many people trash on The Maker for being unearned, cartoonish, and destructive to the character, but I have always disagreed, and I really appreciate your perspective. I feel as though all of Marvel’s pinnacle Geniuses (Reed, Hank, Tony, T’Challa, and Strange imo) all make very compelling villains when they “snap” under tragedy…. And I think the Maker proves that perfectly… he was never as “good” as 616 Reed, but he loved his family just as deeply, and losing them made him someone else entirely.

This video brilliantly tells the man’s beginning, his flaws, such as his selfishness, disappointment, desire for everything to be perfect, and slow descent into villainy. I admit I’m unsure if he did the right or wrong thing by leaving his team because this was a tough call. I acknowledge that Susan was right; she had not accepted his proposal at her father‘s funeral. But I wasn’t sure if Susan was right to break up with him because he prioritized the world because it was challenging. But Susan isn’t responsible for his actions, and he could’ve easily earned her forgiveness. I really enjoyed this video and it was a brilliant piece of work .❤

Bloody hell was it a trip actually seeing this decades long journey of villainy! You can only achieve this in long form American comicbook storytelling. Maker stands out among other big haters in comics because the person he hates isn't a different person like Doctor Doom with Reed or Eobard Thawne with Flash, but the one he hates is literally himself. He goes out of his way to ruin another Reed's life because he reminds him of what he's not, what he'll never become cuz of his own action
