12 Speed Shimano Ultegra Upgrade / Part 3 of 3 | Bike Build

Being fortunate enough to get my hands on a 2021 Giant TCR frame & fork last year I upgraded my bike. Knowing Shimano was on the cusp of revealing the updated group-set I used my older cable actuated DI2 miss-match group anticipating upgrading in the future. Fast forward a little over a year later, I took a couple months to compile all parts to upgrade to the new Shimano Ultegra DI2 12 speed. Here is a list of parts and tools I used.

Nice build! Fun fact - the little plastic tube on Shimano cassettes actually allows you to line up the splines and let gravity drop it onto the hub for you, rather than removing the cassette from the plastic tube and then putting it on the hub.

I wrap my bar tape exactly like you except for one things, no double sided tape. I use tape with a little bit of stretch and a sticky back. I start under the bar and my first turn overlap completely the loose end of the tape. I wrap it tight and finish it with bar plug. So it hold very well without double sided tape. Love the clean look it makes.

Yeah the wheels are about 1680g I want to upgrade to a pair of Cadex ultra 50 they are around 1300g

nice videos:) do you think is it worth to upgrade from mechanical 105 to di2 105? ultegra is almost 1000 euros more in my country unfortunately

Honestly mechanical is so good so consistent I don't think it's necessary but if you are buying a whole new bike then I would go with the Di2 105. That will also bring down the cost because the bike manufacturer or shop will absorb some of cost. FYI Di2 in my opinion is was easier to set up than mechanical, Good Luck!

Quick question Euan. You updated to 12 speed Ultegra, but I notice you're still running 11 speed cassette and 11 speed crank. So you're technically still running 11 speed?

That's a 12-speed cassette 100%.

12 speed cassette, and chain with 11 speed 53-39 chainrings shifts flawlessly!
