The charity quilt turned out great. I love that children can receive care after they turn 18. I always think of a quilt as hugging a person so it makes sense to me.

I typically make coasters out of smaller scraps and then quilt with 'big stitch' quilting designs. Tote bags always seemed to be appreciated as well. Your heart pillow reminded me of a time several years ago when I had month long daily visits at MDanderson Cancer Center. The days were long and tiring but I once found a nook to lounge in, and looked over and saw on a table many small heart pillows that had been made by volunteers. They were made from simple calico and decorator fabrics, but on that day they were a found treasure. I kept my pillow (perfect as neck or lower back support) for many years until my toddler grandchild fell in love with its minuteness. I completely forgot about these until watching your video and now have found my next project for scrap busting!
@ScrapFabricLove

Your coasters sound lovely. There is a group here in the U.K. and I imagine similar ones in other countries that make and distribute heart cushions (a bit bigger than the ones I made for the kids) to breast cancer patients. I think they are particularly useful for them in the car to help protect from seatbelts and things. I made a few cushions for this group a while back. I love that you found a little heart during your treatment and lovely that you shared it with your grandchild!

The orphan block quilt is phenomenal! I love the idea of the footstool or maybe even a large scrap beanbag like chair for the kids. In my case I would need to make 3 so no one argues ;) I am also sewing up pillows that attach to the seat belts for my older two for when/if they fall asleep in the car they have something to rest on instead of the strap, and place mats. I love seeing all your projects. I may have to do the bean bags for my little guy as well; those are great.

Genius trimming on the Accuquilt. I will have to try that. I like to use templates for scrappy quilts. Missouri Star wacky web is a good one, and also the Twister. If the pieces aren't big enough for the templates, I sew scraps together. And lately I have been making lots of simple zipper bags. I feel so efficient and frugal when I finish a stash buster. Thanks for all your great ideas. And, yes, I agree, charity quilts should be just as pretty/well made as quilts for ourselves. Even more so. Those kids deserve it!

Great ideas! And your husband's quilt is beautiful. My go to is string blocks. I always have a big stack of those ready whenever I need a quilt in a hurry for a gift or charity. They are so bright and cheerful. I pass on fabric I don't want to my s-i-l who makes pillows, quilts, etc, and Barbie clothes for charity. Tiny scraps go to a friend who takes them somewhere to be turned into insulation. I love that it all gets used. Thanks for all your inspiration.

The orphan block quilt is you to a T and can totally see why your husband would claim it. The stories behind each block is what adds so much intrinsic value 🤩 The heart pillows are great.
