In Sicily, it's hot and humid for 4 months of the year. It's got to be linen all the way. Linen shorts with linen tank tops or t-shirts. For an extra layer in morning or evening, I can carry a linen shirt. No leather handbags - I have a selection of Sicilian crafted straw bags

I lived in Sicily when I was younger. My Dad was in the Navy, so I went to school on the base in Sigonella, but we lived in a city a little past Motta Sant' Anastasia. It was hot during the day, but in the evening and night, it was usually much better with a breeze.

The sunscreen is essential. I can't even stress that enough. I worked at a 5 star. Resort in the Rocky Mountains for years and the amount of people that came up to the mountains and like. Oh I didn't expect to be sunburned because they were in the mountains and were from the beach. You know, in the mountains. You are closer to the sun. Just put it that way. Please plan accordingly. Your skin will thank you for it

I agree that sunscreen is essential no matter where you are. However, it’s the thinner air that accounts for sun burns in the mountains, not being closer to the sun. The distance is negligible considering we are 93 million miles away.

I do wear dresses, but will always put a pair of slip shorts (light control red hot Spanx) to help keep my thighs from SWEATING and sticking together and chafing. That helps so much to keep me cool in my summer dresses. I also wear the high neck tank tops and like them more than the deep scoop because I can wear my regular or racerback bras with them. I am a bit busty and don’t like my cleavage being over exposed with the scoop neck. I also LOVE wearing the pleated loose fitting shorts and also love the linen pants in the summertime. I feel you so much on the thigh sweats 😂 I HATE when I have to sit on any smooth, not upholstered surfaces in the summer for this reason. Maybe this isn’t a problem for most people but I’m always so self conscious of sweating onto whatever I’m sitting on. Wearing safety shorts is essential for preventing this.

Thank you Anna! I’m in Chicago and while not Florida hot, it is in the 90s F and humid in the summer. Using layers outside is just not feasible outside. Every outfit must look polished by itself without the layers. Adding a layer indoors to combat AC is an option but gotta carry it in.

Polyester shorts are great lets face it half the time the cotton or linen trousers are lined with polyester anyway 😂 as are a lot of the trousers and blazers dresses only the expensive ones are lined with silk or natural fibres ❤

I wanted to like the tailored shorts idea, and i ordered a pair of denim ones from Old Navy. But i had to send them back. As a 2X lady, they didn't complement my curved belly. So I'll wear jeans style shorts, or just loose cut linen shorts or trousers. And that's fine for my lifestyle as a 68 year old.

This video was super helpful. I moved from Washington State to a much more extreme climate. There is 150 difference between the high in the summer and the low in the winter. I have zero idea how to dress in summer. Winter I have down. Summer I have no clue so this gave me ideas. An essential item for me in summer is a flowy viscose dress. Or anything viscose. It feels cool on my skin and flows as I walk, creating a flow of air on my body. Linen feels scratchy on my skin, so viscose is the only way to go for me.

I've been told many times how odd it is that I do not wear or have ever been seen in a pair of shorts, that is an article of clothes I am not comfortable in. Shorts do not feel comfortable, and I do not think I look good in them. I love clothing and always told how nice I look each day in the office, but coworkers have never seen or heard me mention shorts and they get tickled because they believe my shorts would be cute with something lacey on them, but nope won't wear them. I do love that lone silk skirt and much have a few.

Anna, great points, but I am in SF, and it’s already very hot. So i don’t want any denim,any shorts, or even pants, right now. All I wear is maxi caftans, dresses- cotton, silk. I am on edgy dressing wave right now, so if cool edgy sunnies, accessories, will do. In London 2 days ago I had to wear my cashmere jumper and wool jacket, with jeans and tights underneath, last week I wore my scarf, gloves and woolly hat. We've had mostly cold rainy weather for 9 months, it's unusual and it's getting everybody down. I've got lovely clothes but I've hardly been out and about as it's so cold and depressing. Is it just me? I live in Texas and the weather and A.C. situation is similar to Florida. But I find my skin burning if the scorching heat touches my bare arms or legs. And no matter how much sunscreen I use I still worry about sun damage. So I find myself in loose fit full sleeve shirts/tees and wide leg pants, preferably linen for both. I am also constantly searching for long sleeved light weight maxi dresses for the same reasons. They are harder to style but I can neither bear nor risk the scorching sun.

I really like those high neck tank tops, but I prefer the bra to be built in. Have you found any that way and if so, what stores?

Lands End has some quality high neck tanks that cut in to emphasize shoulders but straps cover a supportive racerback bra (not those wimpy ones).

We generally don’t get hot summers in the UK except for 2 days when the following happens: - We feel like we’re dying and moan about it on social media - the rest of the world laughs at us - we shout ‘we don’t have aircon!!’ I’ve just booked a trip to Miami in November. How hot will it be at that time of year??

It's challenging to find soft cotton rayon fabric. Its so cool and flowy. Most are yucky cheap poly. Still trying to find lightweight denim shorts, prob in chambray even better.
