I grew up in Amanzimtoti South Africa and never thought I was raised by lower income parents, during a time when everyone treated each other with respect. We didn't eat a lot of fast food because it was considered a treat, not a food group. We drank water that came from our kitchen tap. We ate mince meat, lamb, sausages, cheese sandwiches, but mostly homemade meals consisting of mainly salad, meat, potatoes, vegetables, bread, butter, and homemade dessert. We grew up during a time when we mowed lawns, pulled weeds, babysat, helped neighbors with chores to be able to earn our own money. We went outside a lot to play hop scotch, football, netball, hockey, tag, fish , swim, ride bikes, run with friends & played hide and seek. We drank tap water from the water hose outside... bottled water was unheard of. If we had a coke -it was in a glass bottle ... and we didn’t break the bottle when finished .. After school, we came home and did homework and chores, before going outside or having friends over. We would ride our bikes for hours. We had to tell our parents where we were going, who we were going with, and be home when the street lights came on! You LEARNED from your parents instead of disrespecting them, and treating them as if they knew absolutely nothing. What they said was LAW, and you did not question it, and you had better know it!!! In school we stood for the National Anthem, and listened to our teachers. We watched what we said around our elders because we knew if we DISRESPECTED any grown-up we would get our behinds whipped, it wasn't called abuse, it was called discipline! We held doors, carried groceries, and gave up our seat for an older person without being asked. You didn't hear curse words on the radio in songs or TV, and if you swore and got caught you had a bar of soap stuck in your mouth. “Please, Thank you, yes please, no thank you, yes ma'am, no ma'am yes sir, and no sir were part of our daily vocabulary! You grew up to respect the Nation, and the flag. The world we live in now is just so full of crooked people, hate and disrespect for others Re-post if you're thankful for your childhood. I will never forget where I came from and only wish children now days had half the chance at the fun and respect for real life we grew up with! ✨

The first South Coast Highland Gathering was held on June the 15th 1963, as part of a fund raising event for Umbogintwini Primary School. The organisers were Cliff and Betty Leesam, a Scottish family, and involved Dr Ian Dalziel and his wife Pat. Lion Pat Dalziel is still heavily involved in this annual event. The Highland Gathering continued to be held at this venue until 1969. At this time the Amanzimtoti area was relatively undeveloped and much of it was farming units. In those days, for economic viability, the Highland Gathering was held as a joint event involving the Amanzimtoti Agricultural Show. In 1970 the venue for the event was moved to Athlone Park Primary School and in 1972 to Kingsway High School. In 1973 a committee involving Pat Dalziel organised the event on wasteland by the river, then in 1974 and 1975 in front of the municipal buildings. In 1976 the Amanzimtoti Lions became involved and the event moved to its current venue at Hutchison Park. In 1990 the Lions took over full responsibility for the event. The event is reputedly the largest of its specific type in the Southern Hemisphere and enjoys attendances exceeding 10,000 most years weather permitting.

So many great beaches and so much space to spread out in. It looks like beach parking can be as difficult there as it is here in Florida. The 1/4 Caramel was not what I was expecting, but it looked delicious. Glad Chantz was willing to give it a try and that it was as amazing as Craig remembered.
