This video was a welcome break from the "fantasy trip" ones I normally see. This one was very down to earth and practical and geared for the everyday Joe. It's always been the case with me that when I've gone off on solo road trips, it's been the "out of the way" places along the way that make the whole experience worthwhile. For example, I may stop at some small mom and pop restaurant in the middle of nowhere only to discover that the food is fabulous. I may discover some small unknown town that's loaded with history and culture. I recall in one of your other videos that you mentioned you were from Louisiana. I wish you would talk about some of the other towns like Lafayette, Baton rouge and all the amenities they offer. Also, New Orleans has over 1,100 restaurants. There's got to be another dozen or more places here in the city that you should review. I live in New Orleans so if you ever come up this way, let me know and we'll head off to Dooky Chase. I'm dying to try that place out.

I go through Mississippi a lot but rarely go for a visit. I did check out Hellfighters motorcycle shop in Laurel on my way home from NOLA. Very nice place with a lot of bikes and accessories. Thanks for posting.

Lots of really interesting information, I learnt a lot! I didn't realise that there were US states with such small urban areas, with Mississippi's largest town only having a population of 150,000 people. The stereotype of cities I have of the US, is that the cities all have enormous populations, in the millions.

Thanks and Mississippi is one of several states that's very rural and don't have any large cities.

I immigrated to go to college in Jackson in 1995 and ended up living in Mississippi for 22 years and I still learned a few things from this video. You forgot to mention just how segregated Mississippi is despite the race numbers being roughly even. I never visited Oxford even once my entire 22 years in Mississippi. What I really really miss about the state? The food! The warm, welcoming people. Fishing! I feel sad I learned how to fish just a year or two before I left MS. I miss having Biloxi beach all to myself on certain mornings. I miss places like Vicksburg and Natchez. I don't miss Jackson, sadly. Lots of bittersweet memories there.

Mississippi is definitely the seed of much racial division,so your absolutely right about segregation.Biloxi and Gulfport area is always my favorite in state. Thanks for watching,I appreciate it.

Down here on the Mississippi Gulfcoast we have more in common with other coastal cities like Mobile and New Orleans than the more central and northern parts of Mississippi, all the ethnicities and races are very well mixed together in this part of the state almost every other couple or marriages down here are interracial which is a very common thing in this part of Mississippi and have been for a long time with that being said yeah there are quite a few differences between Mississippi and the Gulfcoast of Mississippi for sure

Seeing houses built up on stilts isn't that unusual for me as it's something you see in the tropical and subtropical parts of Australia. What is different though here it was done as a way to keep the houses cool (in pre-airconditioning days) That style of house is called a 'Queenslander' (named after the state) air passed under the house would keep it cooler.

On the gulf coast of the US,hurricane season is a major problem for 3 to 4 months each year.I didn't know that about Australia,I'll have to check the Australian housing.

@@TravelAdventureswithEricB Australia has its tropical storm season as well. Here they're called cyclones (I lived in Japan and there they are called typhoons, it's all basically the same thing, strong winds, lots of rain, major damage if its a big one!) Cyclone season is October through to April in the northern part of Australia, east and west coast and the 'Top End' north coast. Not a good idea to visit the Great Barrier Reef during those months as that's the wet season and also cyclone season.
