I mostly sticked to the little warrior devil Olivers stards out with. I know he is not the best familiar but he is balanced, reliable and fun to play with. The Cat I only used to dodge attacks ore when the little Warrior is out of stamina.

Easily one of the worst decisions they could make for the sequel. Was it a resource problem? Because designing and creating Familiars can't have been easy, but still... It's relegated this game to "buy when at bargain bin prices" now, that's how badly it has affected me, and I considered Ni No Kuni the greatest JRPG of the last generation!

It just doesn't feel like Ni No Kuni without the familiars. It's an essential part of the game, it'd be like a Final Fantasy game without Summons/Eidolons. Revenant Kingdom also looks to be MUCH less focused on magic, another huge part of the first game was obtaining new spells. Oh well, the people behind the fan-translation of Jet Black Mage/the DS game might be ready to release it by early summer.

Having generic, coloured blobs instead of thoughtfully designed and individually styled familiars could be a deal-breaking oversight for me. Their varied personalities were an integral part of the game, and a lot of the fun came from levelling up the familiars and choosing which ones were in your crew.

Anyone else getting less hyped seeing more of the news on this? I was excited to see this last year, but the CGI look when they are traveling the map totally throws me off (the original had same cell shade quality whether traveling the map or in cutscenes or in battle, always continuous) - Here, you already get a horribly convoluted story of a guy who travels to another world, who happens to be an ex-president, who happens to have gotten 20 years younger? Three unlikely things happening at once is a writing no-no. Audiences can tolerate only one miracle at a time without shattering suspension of disbelief. This already tells me this was written by a hack. It's like spider man being not only bitten by a radioactive spider but being an alien and an amazon queen and a ancient god/king of the ocean all at once, because more powers better, right? It's ridiculous, it kills the immersion. No Drippy???? Drippy was one of the best characters and at least another third of the reason why the first game was so charming. And now, NO FAMILIARS? I would say at least a good third of the charm of the first game was in collecting different familiars that I thought looked cool, and evolving them, even I knew I was never going to use them. No TokoTokos?? No walking bananas? No Dinoceros? No familiar classes? No familiar classes that your characters jibe with? No feeding or caring for familiars? All familiars reduced to tiny smoky looking farts? How lazy can you get with game production? None of the familiar characters from before returning at all even for a cameo? Already seems like a poorer version of the first; a game that is trying to "improve" like FFXV, Fallout 4 tried to improve, i.e., dumbed down, and cheapened production for more marketing budget and artificial hype. They already had familiars, why get rid of them? Why waste the assets??? They should have ADDED to the familiars, not get rid of them. Sounds like a disaster, and sounds like will have significantly less replay value. The reason why I replayed the first game was to use different familiars. Why would I do that with this game? Already lost a lot of excitement for me, sadly - very sadly. Was looking so forward to this game when it was first announced.

Totally agree, the familiars were unique and had individual looks/personalities. Half the fun was choosing a crew that looked awesome as well as having decent attacks. I'm really disappointed :(

I like the familiars but I am not going to miss them. And horribly convoluted? Seroulsy? He is a ex-president, he is now younger in this world. How is that complicated ore convoluted? I found that actuly really apealing. At first glance seems like an interesting Character And I also dont see it as a bad thing that they make a new story that had nothing to do with the first one exept fore some similaritys like Final Fantasy games are all there own thing. I dont really need old Characters to return. I just can play there game If I miss them. It would be nice but its not necessary. This game is different but I see that as good thing. It seems promising. I found it hilarious and a bit disturbing how quick people are to judge a game that is not even out yet.

Hi, Sofaris - I appreciate the respectful reply, and I can see your point. I hope also that I am wrong and the game turns out well. But, the counter argument which is always prevalent among the gaming community is well, after Mass Effect Andromeda, No Man's Sky, etc., - a healthy dose of skepticism is a "good" thing. As per the convoluted argument - this is what is called by, Blake Snyder, the very famous author of the extremely famous and well regarded screenwriting book, Save the Cat, as a writing no-no, he termed, "Double Mumbo-Jumbo." He sites the weirdness of Spiderman when the Green Goblin appears in the middle of the movie wholly separate from the creation of Spiderman, and also, M. Night's Signs, where a super-intelligent space alien is killed by a swing of a bat. This is a general rule of writing fiction that one weird thing is ok; two weird things is asking the audience to believe too much, and it is not just the 2 things you wrote about in regards to NNK 2; 1. The guy happens to be an ex-president. 2. The guy happens to be teleported to a parallel world. 3. There exists a parallel world in the first place. 4. The guy is suddenly younger when he gets teleported to the parallel world. 5. The guy happens to be one of the prime characters that solves the parallel world's prime evil. Those are FIVE super unlikely things ALL in the story so far. And I would BET that he will have some secret insight or past that helps the new king which will be the 6th unlikely miraculous thing. Any single miracle is hmmm, interesting. For example, when a person wins the lotto, that's totally believable. When that SAME person who won the lotto also wins powerball in the same week, you would go, "What???!?!" But if the same guy wins Lotto, Powerball, and Publisher's Clearing House all in the same week on his birthday where he gets married to a super model and becomes a NSA super spy, and he is sent to a parallel world - that is "Double Mumbo Jumbo." It's a writing no-no in story-telling. It already tells me, more than LIKELY, admittedly, not CERTAINLY that it was written by an inferior story teller than the previous. In the previous, all miracles stemmed from just the singular miracle of there being a parallel magical world(albeit not the white witch section perhaps because was added on). All other miracles CAME from that singular fact. In NNK2, it appears many miraculous things happen for no good reason. I already question, why did he have to be younger in the first place? Doesn't an 80 year old super-badass seem a hella lot more interesting than a younger guy? He could also have served as a much more effective foil to the younger child king. Also, it's not so much the lack of Familiars, but that the gassy-farts they replaced them with more than likely took LESS resources to create and balance than the Familiars. Occam's Razor principle states that the simplest answer is often the correct one (Or take Murphy's Law - LOL) Simplest answer to why the familiars were replaced - The gassy little farts are easier to animate and takes no imagination to create and less resources. Galva Tron In my opinion Persona 5 pretty much crushed the original Ni No Kuni. It did pretty much everything better. The battles, the Characters , the story, the funny Sidekick/Mascot Character and ofcours the monster collecting. Than again it comes down to taste.

I get that a majority of the NNK:WotWW fans are kind of upset that familiars are no longer part if the game but there’s something I’m not so worried about, more like wondering. Will there be something similar to broken-heartedness? I mean, I get that there won’t be anyone broken-hearted because of Shadar being beaten and all, but will there there be something that similar to it in this game? It’s because I thought healing people’s hearts were a huge part of the first half of the game and I like it if there was something that resembled it.

It looks good, but some of this stuff sounds really weird. No more familiars? It's not set in the same world? It'll still probably be a great game, but I was hoping for a little more connectivity between sequels. And the original Kuni's story focusing on the positives of life and friendship doesn't make it not for adults! :P Heck I'd say the moral of the story is more for adults than kids.

I know its not being formally recognised by studio ghibli like the first game (although I know some of the same animators are working on revenant kingdom) which makes me wonder if there's going to be any animated breaks from the computer generated scenes like in the wrath of the white witch?? I loved that as it really brought that special feel that only studio ghibli could achieve into the artwork and story of the game.

After seeing through Ni No Kuni (which I will personally play eventually) I will definitely be getting this game, it looks so neat and I like the plot already. I hope Tani is likable, Esther may not have been my favorite character, but, I did like her. I'm assuming since Tani is a pirate, she'll be the thief of the group, like Swaine.

So glad to see this game on PC. Back when I played the first Ni No Kuni I was a console gamer, I was so dissapointed of the current generation that I decided to move on to PC, when they revealed Ni No Kuni 2 in the PSX I was so sad of the thought that I had to skip it. Not anymore! It's a shame though that the familiar system has been replaced with those little things but I think I can live with that as long as the story and gameplay excel.
