My best advice, especially for those always crafting weapons is to get your monster materials up. Farm EVERY single monster. Even the earlier ones. I can’t say how many times I’ve had to jump back into HR for mats. It’s especially frustrating without investigations and when it’s a rarer material. Either hunt EVERYTHING you can AS MUCH AS TOU CAN. You’ll need it all.

A couple of personal thoughts: There are some HR armor pieces that are more Skill efficient than the current Iceborne assortment: Kaiser (Teostra) Gamma Helm and Drachen Arms for example. You won't run into these in KZbin set videos because they're High Rank and thus not suitable for everyday Multiplayer, but these options are here to top off some sets. Sleep becomes really strong in Iceborne, especially in Multiplayer. I haven't seen anyone talking about the mechanic, but it's a Clutch Claw mechanic involving a sleeping monster. Miiiiight be patched sooner or later? Gold Wyverian Prints are still good to keep working on, but there's no need to farm them (is there a way to?). Additionally, a lot of equipment seem to favor Nergigante and Xeno Gems, as well as the normal Wyvern Gem. If you haven't found one now, it's best to consult an armor set searcher to make your builds. I've tried my own at building sets with pen and paper, and those results never matched the quality a dedicated program produced. I use the MHW TA Wiki set builder, but Honey Hunter World has more features and is used/backed? by JinJinx and Tuna (the MH Math Guys). RIP Athena's Armor Set Search.

Another great weapon to start out is surprisingly Great Jagras. Natural white sharpness, good raw, and you can max it out right after the very first quest in iceborne.

Things you need: 3 Tenderizer jewels. Earplugs are a blessing. Monsters roar far more often and like to visit each other a lot. Stock up on dung bombs. Have an armor set with good ice resist fully augmented for the first hunts. Get as many layered armors you can for fashion.

@@linko9720 OK for something like sns this could work nicely: Corono sns(kjarr king rage if you have it) with a vitality jwl Kushala Glare Y with a tenderizer jwl Empress Mail Y with a tenderizer jwl Zorah Claws Y with a tenderizer and a Mirewalker jwl(since first monsters are in deep snow) Kushala Cocoon Y with 2 ice resist jwls Kushala crus Y with Earplug jwl You get: All windpressure negated.... Earplugs 5 Handicraft 4 Crit Eye 4 Tenderizer 3 Ice resist 2 Evade Window 2 Tool Specialist 1 Aquatic mobility 1 Vitality boost 1 Early on the Beotodus armor is surprisingly good and easy to get. One of the first quests. I realize these are all gamma pieces but you should be able to get them. Even an average player like me can beat arch tempered Luna solo, took 45 minutes.... But it worked. Again At kush bring normal kush pieces and suddenly he's far less annoying. Hell stickies can work nicely and safely too. And Zorah is a bore anyway.

Pukei-pukei weapons are actually really good for the IB story. You can get purple sharpness really quick and it has poison damage. The poison is really good for the story.

Jagras' Greatsword is the best early game GS. I would expect the same for other raw weapons.

Eduardo Ledesma I used the pukei hammer for the whole story and it worked fine. Of course hammer doesn’t have a Jagras tree though. Poison is more potent in IB than one would think. Not the best for late game(unless Goldian) but definitely good for story when your not doing your max damage potential.

One thing I disagree with is that you SHOULD fight AT monsters and behemoth, you can get through almost half of the iceborne story only with the drachen armor. Also these fights will help you get better at the game in general

I just bought the game last 2 weeks and been farming like crazy for decorations. I was stuck at some LR n HR coz i dunno what to do. Lucky i got some friends to help me out n taught me. So new comers....dont be like me who play all weapons. Choose ur Main n stick with it till u master it.

Weapon-wise, Longsword, Hammer, Greatsword, Insect Glaive and Sword and Shield are all very beginner friendly. Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Charge Blade and Switch Axe are nice in mid level play if you want to stray from the simpler weapons a bit. Dual Blades, Bow, and the Bowguns I would recommend staying away from until you have good decorations, and lots of leftover resources. But of course, It's a game so have fun! I used Charge Blade and Hunting Horn throughout all of the MHW story without ever knowing what an encore or SAED was. Happy Hunting everyone

I’d recommend stocking up on great sushi fish scales and whet fish fin+. Also, stock up a lot of nourishing extract and screamer sac. From my experience in Iceborne, I’d recommend equipping the gala suit alpha armour and any level 6 or level 7 weapons that has two decoration slots when you’re transitioning from World to Iceborne.

@@milat9287 That swing produces the highest damage for greatsword clsss. It also takes sometime to get to that point and missing it is a very frustrating moment of greatsword players. He did the combo again after that. Look at the damage of the same swing right before the pink rathian fell.

Definitely max out Dragonbone weapons, all of the final boss weapons for Iceborne upgrade from that tree and are super comfy for builds and are pretty much the best general use weapons in the game, with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions.

If you're a Bow user looking to get a decent start to Iceborne, the Arena Bow is still solid for utility due to the Coatings, the Kadachi Bow and Anja Bows are still solid, especially with the high presence of Monsters weak to Lightning and Fire, respectively. I always complained about how the arch tempered monsters ruined the gameplay loop of killing challenging monsters, so you can get their armor and whoop their ass easier. What's the point in farming arch tempered if you will still get one shot by the monster who the armor came from no matter what? Might as well wear nothing at all, almost the same effect. And their sets sucked for dps as well, the only good armor set from that difficulty is the drachen set. I can't wait to get better armor that would allow me to have fun with arch tempered, i really like that the arch tempered monsters moveset change up a bit and they become faster and more difficult, but randomly getting one shot by the weakest looking moves feels cheep, it's artificial difficulty and it made me never want to refight them.

@@al470ex12 It's defense is better, but in max augmented gamma armor you will still get 2 shot compared to other max augmented armor with only about 10% hp difference and 1 shot attacks still 1 shot, also their bonus stats are usually something like +tremor resistance or +slinger capacity. Decoration slots are nice, but don't really give anywhere as much attack power as armor with decent stats.

There’s so many different types of skills you can have offensively. Defense shouldn’t be your priority unless you’re using like health boost and recovery or a tank health regen build

If you're a new player, although doing all the arch tempered fights isn't __necessary__ I personally recommend doing them at least once, just for the sake of having the full mhw base game experience, because iceborne will change so much. Enjoy the base game, it's awesome. Obviously you don't have to listen to me but I'd highly recommend against just sitting on your hands waiting for iceborne.

@@epicname6271 I respectfully disagree, they all have their counters you just have to take your time and learn them, if you don't have the time then I kinda get it but if you figure out how to overcome their seemingly unfair attacks, damage etc you get better for it. Arch-Tempered monsters taught me how to make use of the build variety in the game, they taught me that a few small changes in your build can mean the difference between failing or completing the quest. That's something that lesser monsters simply can not teach you in my opinion.

Not a console player but one weapon tree we should be maxing (personally I've taken care of it already) are the Dragonbone trees. A lot of people neglect Dragonbone because the weapons are pretty bad and the crafting cost is surprisingly high, but IB's final boss weapons upgrade off Dragonbone, and they're not only badass weapons but very effective and competitive in a lot of weapon classes.

Red feystones have 18% chance for r7 and 5% for r8. simple math imho

Based on the rng I'd experienced in Iceborne, the common Lv 4 decorations tends to have Attack Boost/Critical Eye/Constitution as one of the two skill levels in it and more decorations that I can't recall. There's no need to go all your way worshipping some of these jewels in the base game anymore.

The one incentive to still play Arch Tempered even with Iceborne is the layered armours. Master Rank armours look amazing, but are often than not horrendous when mixed, so it's good to have as many High Rank layereds as possible.

Yes, however those people are mostly speed runners who can handle the extra vulnerability. With even just one piece of high rank gear, master rank tempered elders will absolutely destroy you. However, high rank gear is plenty for going through a majority of IB's story so do what you like.

@@prawn1717 nahhhh Plenty of People did this in older games too, it aint that bad. even in MH4U with Lvl 140 Apex monsters (MUCHHH harder than anything in Iceborne) and GU's EX deviants (Also muuuch harder than anything in Iceborne) there are certain HR pieces that just straight outperform or allow you to get the desired set you want. Its really not even that bad. People are acting like they are getting one-shot by having a Monster step over there toe or something. Lunastra is understandable because she is bull shit, but most monsters are managable in pretty much the exact same way.

Diablos Chargeblade to upgrade to Acidic Glavenous CB, Kadachi CB is also good. I also made use of the Hornetaur LS and its easy to get a Master rank upgrade for early iceborne game. also recommend upgrading your favorite armor past max by doing the augment equipment and remove max upgrade and you can get up to around 92 def a piece which will get you by early game :3 as the base def on master rank armor is around 114 a piece

@@hotshotroom964 There's a tree of weapons that braches directly off of he dragonbone tree. Most weapons from that tree is pretty good. So it would be nice to craft those weapons. As for Jagras tree, many of them are directly craftable in MR. So you don't need to make them in HR unless you want to use them.

I'm still new to the game, I'm still on the base game about only 30+ hours. I barely understand anything you explain in the video. but I still think its a good video nonetheless and I hope I will understand it more when I progress the game. I'm still saving money to buy iceborne but I totally can't wait to buy it

The flash fly cage is the best. Free constant thunder traps and you can actually capture mons with these. Plus a *trip trap(takes 2). Vigorwasp is good for new encounters and coral gong is better for elders/upper variant mons. Either way you would probably wont use your palico for harder mons anyway bc of full party. This is why flash fly is the best for solo duo grind . Shieldspire lvl 15 is arguably better than vigowasp in terms of defensive fighting

You WANT to unlock all the pailico gadgets because you can get an additional gadget that lets your palico summon buddies in a pinch, not to mention all of them at rank 11 or higher are extremely good, Meowlotov is nasty at max rank, i use plunder for extra mats in the GL, esp the new ability it grants, vigorwasp is a free feline insurance once per quest, theyre all solid imo. Geology is great in the GL too, you can pick up double mats as well when it drops from the monster, crazy helpful

I just killed xeno jiva yesterday. LS PC main here wondering what weapons to get ready before hopping into iceborne. Also maybe tips for decorations considering the two best event quests for it aren’t available right now.

Although pretty much all of the gamma armors or kulve weapons are now useless, the head piece for Kaiser Gamma can still be used because it has same crit. eye 2 just like Teostra B+ but has more slots for jewels.

Good go to weapons easily accessible for Iceborne for HBG is Tztzi for spread build, CB Ore, Jagras, Rathian or maxed HR Zora and for Dual Blades I found Fire and ice (Teostra/Kushala) were good starting out as well as Lunastra.

Do not go into ice born with low-level armor unless you're really good at the game. The monsters in ice born do a lot more damage, grind a decent high rank set before ice born so you don't get one shot by these monsters.

It is, likely a case of a longtime franchise fan being stubborn on taking on the pronunciation made official in World. Although those that used "Ray" always confused me. Made far more sense when a lot of the quest names involving them utilized the word "wrath" as well. Then some of the weapons further suggested that pronunciation like the Rathling Gun, an obvious pun of Gatling which wouldn't sound as right if you said "wraithling" instead of "wrathling"

Well on PC there are 3 less layered/ special armour sets. We don't have the two street fighter armour sets and gestures. Also no Alloy bow and horizon zero dawn stuff.

I would also add: get lynian unit to lvl 5 for each tribe. Spoiler free, a new mechanic unlocks at unity 6 which is required for a few trophy/achievements

I can't believe when talking about rathalos/rathian weapons, you didn't mention the dual blades...the dual blades gets a brand new tree of rath weapons, and its absolute best of both worlds for both weapon types. Both poison and fire elements, high raw, can have purple sharpness with handicraft investment, 15% base affinity, it's insane

I wouldn't worry too much about weapons or armor. Just have a decent set or two to last until you can make your first master rank sets. Master Rank is significantly more powerful than high rank. Save as many mats and money as you can.

as a hammer main, is there anything i should be getting ready? like. any hammers i should build before iceborne? Ive already got my Diabalos hammer all set and ready to go (and tried for weeks trying to get a sleep hammer.... with no luck)... but idk if there are any other trees worth building before it comes out on PC. also. pray to god that iceborne doesnt break my small cache of mods.
