Outland is not High Noon 1952 in space. The similarities in the narrative are there but none of the plot points. Someone made this comparison way back in the 90's and since then everyone who can't be bothered with any other original description uses it. Outland (totally unofficially) belongs in the Alien franchise and somewhere like ConAm 27 could be exactly the kind of place the Nostromo was returning from. It is almost completely unique insofar as it has no AI, robots, aliens or miraculous cosmic phenomenon and is actually the story of corporate greed gone too far and two individuals, with no reason other than their moral code, who decide to face the evil down with no promise of reward. Absolutely recommended
@rosshight77046 ай бұрын
Another movie that I think is stealthily in-canon with Alien is 2010. Look at those scenes of them sitting around the table in 2010 and try and tell me the people who built that ship didn't build the Nostromo galley!
@richardmohr92186 ай бұрын
@@rosshight7704 Sure, I'll try to tell you. The Nostromo mess room and the Leanov meeting room both resemble each other because both were modelled on the interiors of contempary nautical vessels. No corporation is in 2010 and 2010 is describing an exploratory mission to the Jovian system. while Con Amalgamate 27 is an established mine set in the same system. But mostly it is not in canon with Alien as Alien is set in the (unspecified) far future and 2010 is set in 2010.

Thank you for including Death Watch on your list, it really is a cinematic gem. Death Watch is a film that is as magical as it is disturbing, in many ways. Romy Schneider was already suffering from alcoholism herself at the time, but her acting is impressive and on point. The acting between her and Harvey Keitel almost makes you forget that it is a film, everything seems so disturbingly real. I saw the film again just a few months ago, and I was almost more shocked than I was when I first saw it in the 80s. Not because the film provided some strange premonition of Romy Schneider's death a year after the film. It works better today and for our time than it did in the 80s, when the subject seemed very abstract. But the destruction of privacy by media is an experience we live through today. Although it is an adaptation of a science fiction novel, it was more of an anti-futurist approach. Glasgow as a desolate setting, blurry, washed-out colors, as if the film had been deliberately sabotaged technically. But Tavernier was more interested in the characters and not in the technology. And that's a good thing, because it allows you to see the great performance of the actors. Definitely not for people who celebrate science fiction as a technological orgy with gigantomanic futures made of steel.

I saw a sci-fi movie as a kid in the eighties that looked like Madmax on roller skates. The people were all skating on roller blades and the villain had a machine that induced anxiety hallucinations and had a big evil robot too. Anyone saw it too and knows the title? Please Internet do your magic, I would love to see the film as an adult now again. Thank you!!!
