Watching her braid reminds me of Saturdays in the hot kitchen while my mama and auntie laid everyone's hair for church on Sunday. Eventually my cousin and I were old enough to take over. The neighborhood boys would come by and see if we were braiding on the porch steps and get in line. I love when mothers pass their craft down to their children. They will always have that to provide for themselves if that's what they choose.
