What a great fishing spot Bob.so peaceful and the fish were in very good condition. Good video, thanks.
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
Yes, it's very peaceful. I haven't seen a lot of mouth damage on the fish, unlike at some venues. It's also more of a mixed fishery than an out-and-out carp water, which is a rare find these days.

Thank you Steve. It's something I enjoy doing - fishing, obviously, and I've been messing about with photography and computers for a long time, so the editing and stuff is also very satisfying.

Always good to see some “proper” fishing with float and a rapidex - my sort of fishing. Just ordered your book ready for a weekend away and a chilling read. How about some more cane rod / pin fishing? Tight lines.
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
Thank you Jason. A float and a pin is certainly my favourite form of fishing. I only have one cane rod and it's more suited to light legering, but I hope to be using it on the rivers once the season opens, probably married to my Mitchell 300. You spotted the Rapidex, but interestingly it's badged as an Allcocks 'Flick-Em' (yes, a strange name but you get the meaning). I researched this and it seems that originally Rapidex only sold through the wider trade, and not direct, thus the rebadging. I also have an actual Rapidex and the two reels are mechanically identical. Thanks for ordering the book. I hope you enjoy it. 😊

@@BobGoesFishing Bob. I have a few pins (far too many) and know of the “flick em” but never got one. I have one of the silver earlier Rapidex and still awesome to fish with. Tight lines.

It's an ORDRO EP7. I reviewed it way back in video #18 (2021) and there are other reviews on KZbin. It's much less visible than a GoPro, which is why I went for it. It also gives a pretty true 'point of view' perspective. They've now introduced the EP8. The EP7 (which still seems to be available) has a 90 degree wide angle lens that isn't too obviously distorting, although there is some lengthening of distances. But the view remains fairly realistic. According to the blurb the EP8 has an adjustable lens of 90 deg to 130 deg. I'm not sure how that works, probably through the app. Each has a gimbal that compensates somewhat for head movement. The wrist control is great when fishing and the fob can alternatively be used in a holder worn around the neck.

Hello Bob its lovely to see a centerpin reel in action, those Carp always get in the action, well done mate I really enjoyed this.
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
I prefer the centrepin for this type of fishing Clive. It gives fine control through finger/thumb pressure, allowing you to push the tackle to the limit as you're directly 'in touch' with the force being applied by the fish.

Do you give fishing advice as I am quite new to it
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
My techniques are in general very basic, old fashioned you might say, as I tend to steer away from a lot of the modern technology. I would hope that watching what I do helps but I would be pleased to explain anything specific in more detail.

Thank you. It’s probably because the spots I like to fish (reedy margins) are natural moorhen haunts. I often have one or more for company. 🦆🦆 (no moorhen emoji !)

Lovely angling as always Bob , not surprised with your influx of subscribers as Iike myself there is a preference for a more gentle angling film , no loud music , incessant bleeping of bite alarms and rushing around trying to attract the attention of the next sponsor …… keep up the good work Bob 👍
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
Thank you John. My approach to angling is very basic and although technology has in some ways radically changed our sport, there are still some of us who find that sitting by a lake watching a float, with nothing more than a piece of bread on the hook, to be what it's all about.

You know what Bob, I think that first Bream was a hybred, looking at those scales, slight oance in the eye, what say you?
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
Yes Clive, I would agree. Roach or possibly rudd, as there are a lot of rudd in there. In fact I think there's a lot of hybridisation going on, such as with crucians. The carp family is a bit hit and miss with their partners!

Just a thought-your subscribers might have increased because of your enjoyable channel and also there is a lot of people out there of a distinguished age (myself included)who battle on whatever 😊
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
Yes indeed, the thought had occurred to me. My audience viewing profile is predominantly age 55 and above, with over half of that group 65+. There's the 'battling on' aspect and also, possibly, a style of fishing that's more familiar to that generation. Thank you for commenting.

@@BobGoesFishing Probable average age of current anglers is 60, at a guess? Me included!
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
That’s true, unfortunately we’re an ageing demographic. Although the average age of the serious carp fraternity is probably lower from what I observe.

I need a little bit of help I’m going to be float fishing need some advice on size of reel to use I’ve been advised that a okuma saffir pro 3000 is ideal would this be correct and thank you
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
That size of fixed spool reel should be fine for float fishing. The 3000 number puts it in the ‘small reel’ category. I don’t have any personal experience of that particular make but there are two favourable reviews at Angling Direct. Make sure you fill the spool to just below the rim as this will make casting easier. I found this article on the web which is quite comprehensive coarsefishingtips.com/choosing-the-right-fishing-reel/

love the video and your methods but please use your net to put the fish back. Every one of them were slid down the actual ground.
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
Thank you for the positive comments regarding the video. Regarding returning the fish, if you check out my other videos you will see that I do return fish using the net, or drop smaller ones directly in the water if fishing off a platform. In this latest video the circumstances were such that there was only a few inches of wet grass between the edge of the unhooking mat and the water, the ground having been totally submerged until quite recently, and it having rained continuously the previous day. Everything was therefore very 'soft' and wet, and I honestly don't think any harm was caused by gently sliding them in, but I'm in total agreement with your general point.
@austinscars85885 ай бұрын
@@BobGoesFishing hey, thanks for your reply. It wasn’t a dig at you more of an observation. Your style or fishing is just the same as mine, like to keep it simple but efficient. I couldn’t help but mention the “release with the net” as you seem to take it out of the net and slide them down the bank. With you having a bad hip I thought letting them go with the net would be easier for you. I mentioned it because I’m teaching my 8 year old to fish at the moment and trying to teach him the correct why and would tell him off for sliding them down the bank. We’d get banned from our club if any of the owners seen that happening and they are getting really strict on commercials now where you can’t even take them out of the net, it’s landing net to keep net with no handling of the fish and it’s got to be lowered out of the net into the keep net with no dropping or splashing. Back in the day when I was a young one we literally threw them back or in the net, was just the done thing
@BobGoesFishing5 ай бұрын
Don't worry, I didn't feel you were having a dig at me. It was a valid comment. To elaborate a bit further, yes my hip is making life difficult, but what I did was more of a value call; i.e. what was the best thing to do. I could have easily pushed the net out from my kneeling position but I honestly didn't think sliding the fish such a short distance over wet grass would cause harm. Judging by the amount of slime in my landing net when I washed it later at home, I'm pretty convinced that the net, soft as it might be, was taking more protective slime off the fish than gently sliding them back in the way I did would have done. That's debatable, of course, but it's my honest view. I fully appreciate your wish to teach your 8 year old the right way to do things, and in no way is sliding a fish down the bank the 'right way'. So I'm sorry if I've sent the wrong message. On the commercials thing, I appreciate their need to protect their fisheries, but some of the rules seem quite disrespectful to good anglers, as the majority of anglers are very respectful to the fish. To get a bit controversial, I feel that some of the modern fishing techniques that commercials allow cause far more harm to the fish than fish handling, but that's another debate. Thanks again for your interest in the video.
