A few hours at Fields End Water started slowly but after a while, and a change from bread to luncheon meat, I started catching good quality rudd. At first I was missing most of the bites but a change in shotting pattern seemed to be the key, with a longer distance between the hook and the shot seemingly being the answer. Then a carp came along, testing my tackle, and me. It wasn't to be the only one, three more gatecrashing my rudd fishing. A small perch, a couple of roach and a 2lb crucian added to the mix. Some really good sport on what was a perfect spring day.
