I subscribe to a bunch of channels, but yours is by far the best. Straightforward, no extra blather, and clear explanations about cause of failure and method of repair. Thank you.

Gotta agree with Gary. They're all good. Easy or hard. Nice to demonstrate other techniques of trouble shooting if you don't have access to a lot of test gear. Before I had a good quality tube tester, substitution was my only way to go. It was almost never a tube though, always those darn caps and fried resistors. ATB Doug.

Thank you Doug. I like to show the simple ways when doing repairs. Not everyone has a shop full of gear. I remember way back I did not have a tube tester or a signal gen. Had a analog voltmeter, a watt meter, and a soldering iron. That was it lol. Thanks for watching my friend.

Another superb troubleshooting video, Buddy. I particularly like the way you go back and forth frimom schematic, to the chassis, to the symptoms, and to your test equipment readings -- explaining as you go your thinking, your logic, and your troubleshooting process. To me you tell it like a detective story, and I stay glued to the screen from start to finish. Cause I don't want to miss one word of what you're saying, and as another viewer said, I ALWAYS learn something new from your videos. As someone else noted, I am glad there is little or no blather or tricky special effects in your vifeos. instead I find yourtiming and apprioriate use of humor to be perfect. I subscribe also to anumber of channels, but yours by far is the best! Many thanks, Buddy, for teaching us how to keep our vintage electronic and ham radio gear working and in tip top shape. Tom, Thanks for that very touching reply with the kind words. These are the type of replies that rewards me from the time I take to produce these videos. Some of my friends that are not into electronics says my videos are sort of dry. I try and keep things on a serious note because I do not want my videos to be about me, but about folks learning simple things in electronics. Thank you again for the kind words and glad you like the format. 73 Buddy

I have been watching your videos for some time now. Very informative and I'm learning quite a bit. Been a ham for near 40 yrs and like and use older equipment so learning to maintain the older stuff is a valuable skill! I'm curious....I've a friend with a 735 and he says the rx audio is distorted only on 20 meters. Cannot tune a signal to perfect clarity only on 20. Seems I read somewhere that may be related to just what you're dealing with in this video. Is that correct? Thanks Wayne n4eyz
@TheRadioShop7 жыл бұрын
Hi Wayne and glad you enjoy the videos. I try my best to explain things in normal speak so everyone can follow. Yes it sounds like he has trimmer problems on his 735. Best to replace all four VCO trimmers and the local oscillator trimmer. Hope that helps.

What a beautiful classic radio brought back to life. Really nice video, Buddy. Thank you for posting this one. I have a question, what would cause those board pins to be unsoldered like that? Mel
@TheRadioShop7 жыл бұрын
Hi my good friend. Yes always nice to bring the classics back to life. The reason for the missing solder is there is a metal shield soldered to the bottom of the vco section. To gain access to the trimmers you have to desolder the shield. Problem is there are also component leads on the same ground path. So when the owner reinstalled the shield he did not notice the leads . Thanks for watching Mel.

DENNIS N I accidently sent it to him one time I was sending him some goodies. It was stuck to something and I didn't notice it. I got them at Radio Shack believe it or not. They sold a neat little mini probe adapter set that contained a red and black magnetic probe. I liked the kits so much I bought something like 8 sets.

Rats! RS out of business and I'll be looking for a set of those magnetic probe add ons! BTW, RS Online is still selling out the last of their stock, bought a bunch of parts bin fillers from them today.

I have one of these rigs and I was wondering if you might be able to answer a few questions about an issue I'm having with it. The very bottom of the LCD display isn't showing the bottom segments of the numbers in the frequencies. I'd love to get it working but my electronics knowledge isn't this advanced, nor do I have the proper equipment to check all the things that needs to be checked. If I just had some idea of what could be wrong with it, I might be able to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My ic-735 was normal and started to have a problem with reception. Some days it worked normal. The smeter indicates a lot of signal but I don't hear the stations or I hear very low. I disassembled the radio and found a lot of cold solder. After redoing the welds and assembling the equipment, the reception did not return to normal. Is there a specific component that I could test?

@ the radio Shop. A friend of mine has an Icom IC-735 since 2004. We installed the antenna and tested it a year ago and after about 15 minutes, it started scanning frequencies all by it self and loop it self on it. I am not sure if you would happened to have time to work on it? PM me if you are interested on working on it.

Please don't use red color for text in the vidoe. That is very hard to read.
@TheRadioShop7 жыл бұрын
What color would be better? I have tried many colors and most are unreadable, the new software I am going to be using in the future will fix this problem. Thanks for your feedback.
@kevinpreid7 жыл бұрын
I'm not complaining personally, but as general advice I would suggest black or white text (as appropriate for the lightness of the background) with a white or black shadow/glow effect (or outline). The shadow increases the contrast at the edges of the text and reduces interference from the background's color/texture. You can see lots of examples of this technique on book covers to make title/author text pop above the cover image.
@TheRadioShop7 жыл бұрын
I have tried that with my editor and it never looks right. I am however getting away from WMM and going to a better program I hope. I am currently trying Shot Cut as an editor. Still in the learning stages. Thanks for the feed back on this.
