I like the darker background better. You had more of the Welo opal flashes that they are known for. I collect Welo opals and fire Opals. Fire Opals are from Mexico and are known for their colors which range from yellow to cherry red. Both are beautiful in their own ways. Love your videos. I learn so much from you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Between the two I like the black one but IRL I am a big fan of white opals. My suggestions would be to either make one like the abalone shell one with gluing bigger bits on OR mix a finer dust into a resin on a white base and fill the whole channel. Neat how the colours seem to disappear when crushed but come back when reunited with the collective.😊

Hi Daniel. Excellent vid thanks. You will get a better colour if you use Australian Opal. Welo Ethiopian opals lose their colour when they get wet sadly, but Australian doesn't. What torch are you using to partially cure - that you have mentioned a few times. Brand new to resin - just buying the kit now - have only used CA so far Thank. John (UK too)

You never know until you try something! I was wondering if you can get thinner chunks of the fire opal, similar to what you did with the shells, and place them the same way? I don't know if you can buy the fire opal like that though. Perhaps the fire opals would work better in a ring blank with a flat top. Even if the piece of opal isn't completely round, I think it would still look nice with an irregular shape. Adding resin on top would smooth out any sharp bits so it can't cut or poke you. Thanks for sharing all your experimenting. It makes it easier for the rest of us! I appreciate all that you do! 💍

Really informative video . Thank you. Hmm - I wonder if a red or rich purple might bring out the opal or something radical like a glitter base. When I get some uv resin, I might try with blobs on a mat before committing to a ring base. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your videos - really appreciate it.
@daniel..cooper Жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes, I was just discussing with a viewer on maybe a red base next time 😊 Very welcome 😊
@iLitAfuseiCantStop5 ай бұрын
Because of the way opals reflect light, crushing them diminishes that. They’re not like a glitter or pigment. Sort of like color shift paints, the larger the surface area the more shift you get. But if you paint a dot you don’t see the same colors
@mandicoleman7433 Жыл бұрын
I think they both look great. Maybe try painting the black on. So u have more room to put the stone pieces. I watched a jewelry maker make an opal inlay ring once. He used super glue but for the life of me I can't think of who it was. With the super glue he would do a tiny section at a time keeping the ring on a dowel not moving
@daniel..cooper Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mandi, yes, I may try the glue soon, it probably helps with less bubbles too 😊
@mandicoleman7433 Жыл бұрын

Hi Daniel. It seems to me that the larger flakes of opal cast the most colour. What if you pressed them into the base layer and then add the top layer over them? I don’t think the powder will give you the effect you want, and the larger pieces may need deliberate placement. I haven’t seen your abalone tutorial, but I suspect the processes could be similar.
@daniel..cooper Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, I tried in the same way as ny abolone ring after filming, it turned out a tiny bit better, maybe I just picked a duller stone?

The problem why the opal wasnt that bright is because Ethiopian opal is absorbing the resin probly when its still liquid. Ethiopian opal is known for absorbing water oil n other fluids. When its absorbing the color disapears most of the time n comes back when you leave it to dry. But because the epoxy gotten sollidand capsuled in it cant dry out anymore to get the color back You will have better results using australian opal.
