In this video I walk through the forest trail highlighting all of the destructive damage a recent mini ice storm caused and that there are continuous mini ice storms from climate change over the past few years. So many of the younger trees aren't making it and many of the larger trees are being damaged shortening their life spans.
Our forest are filling with destroyed trees from more frequent severe weather, high winds, ice storms, tornados, draughts, also insect infestation, fires and the list goes on. Has our climate changed that much over the past years or is this just a normal cycle?
The older trees are dying off more rapidly, the young trees are not maturing, the forest floors are becoming cluttered with broken and fallen trees becoming more of a fire hazard. The forests also don't look so healthy anymore. We need healthy forest for so many reason from natural resources, wildlife habitat, oxygen production, carbon dioxide absorption, shelter, beauty etc.
Spending time outdoors doing projects with various machines and tools - anything from cutting trees, firewood, clearing brush, milling wood, plowing snow, reviewing, repairing & fabricating equipment. Doing landscaping and maintenance on my forested property using my Kubota tractor.
And its not all work!! Gotta take time to play - after turning my pond into a skating rink, and a whole bunch more of outdoor activities.

Yea the weather is really changing. There’s so much work cleaning up my trails in the spring to make them safe to walk through.

Good morning Paul ☕️, wow! That mini ice storm caused a tremendous amount of damage. Very very sad to see. Our first snow was wet and sticky, no ice, but still brought down a number of branches on our property. Take care, enjoy your weekend, Ben

Good morning Ben, it is sad to see so many really nice trees getting destroyed. I do a lot of forest restoration and when these ice storms hit it feels like a meaningless effort but you can't give up. You too enjoy your weekend!

@@JelenOutDoors I completely understand how you feel. It is disheartening when a storm destroys trees and, for us, shrubs as well.

Paul..... I will never forget the very first time on our property when we had an ice storm a couple of decades ago. I was outside very early in the morning and literally heard a succession of loud snaps as the pine trees were breaking. It was a haunting sound I hope I never hear again.

I hear you on that one John. We had a major ice storm here in 1998 and it was as bad as you can imagine. Like you said, hope not to here one like that again. Have a great day!

What nature does is natural. It may be hard to watch the damage, but it is also very beautiful. What a peaceful, gorgeous slice of heaven you have there 😁👍

Its amazing how resilient the trees are to the weight. Looks pretty but gonna see the results of the weight for a while. Be careful around the big ones, I've had a couple close misses with branches falling.😮

Good morning Mark, there is a lot of weight on some of the trees. There has been quite a few more trees that have snapped since I filmed this video. This weekend is going to be a bit warmer so hopefully enough melts to allow the trees to recover a little before the next storm. Absolutely, gotta be super careful walking or working around them. Have a good one!

How's she goin'? The weather is changing and it's easy to see the proof here eh. We had an ice storm several years ago and we couldn't drive down our lake road because all the birch and beech trees were all bent over into the road way. A lot of those trees are still bent today and growing that way. It does look nice though, but like you say, it's some hard on the trees. Thanks for posting and take 'er easy!!

You have a lot of damage Paul, you definitely got more freezing rain than we did, we mostly got snow and then wet snow. I had to get a couple of birch trees cut down this year because they were bent close to power lines. Have a great weekend Paul 🙋🏼‍♂

Morning Luc, over the last couple of days a lot more trees snapped. The warmer weather this weekend should help. That was a good idea to cut the trees near the power lines. You too have a great weekend!

Finally after several days and a bunch more snapped trees the temperature is going to be above 0 degrees for a few days and the excessive weight will melt off. Absolutely, caution is required. Have a fantastic day Mike!

Morning Paul! We clearly both got hit by the same storm. It is wild that we used to have freak weather events once a decade, now it's more like once a year but recently has been multiple times a year. Scary stuff. I'm such it's going to make great cleanup/sawmill/firewood content though hehe! Minus the conifers, which trees are mostly in your area? Here it's mostly red maples and aspens. Cheers, Alex

Good morning Alex, just watched your video and you have a lot of damaged trees as well. You are going to get a lot more work with your wood chipper cleaning up. I have a lot of oak, ash and elm. Have a fantastic weekend!

Love all your videos, keep up the great humble content. What kind of canopy do you have on your Kubota ? Thanks in advance
@JelenOutDoors
@JelenOutDoors 8 ай бұрын
Good morning and thank you so very much. The canopy is a high-impact ABS plastic. I purchased it from the local Kubota dealer. Its manufactured by Femco Inc in McPherson KS for the Kubota Tractor Corporation. It is the least expensive canopy that Kubota carries. Have a fantastic day!
