This is part 1 of a 3 part video where I show my methods of peeling logs for a variety of applications like fence posts, rails, garden stakes, tree supports etc. with various tools. Here in Part 1, I use a Hatchet.

Spending time outdoors doing projects with various machines and tools - anything from cutting trees, firewood, clearing brush, milling wood, plowing snow, reviewing, repairing & fabricating equipment. Doing landscaping and maintenance on my forested property using my Kubota tractor.
And its not all work!! Gotta take time to play - after turning my pond into a skating rink, and a whole bunch more of outdoor activities.

I remember peeling Cedar posts on the farm with my Dad. For some reason, I remember doing it in the spring with fresh-cut trees and the bark would just peel right off. We used to build a lot of fences! Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely, fresh cut ones in the Springtime are pretty easy to peel. There's a nice lubricant underneath the bark that makes peeling easier. The draw knife just slides under the bark. Also, just grabbing strips by hand and pulling the bark come off easily. The only thing is that the logs are super slippery thus a bit harder to handle or hold onto by hand. It's mostly around the nubs and knots that peeling is more difficult. Excellent comment. Have a great week John!

A great milestone Paul. Or is it a .62 milestone? LOL It's easy to get distracted when the camera is turned on. Usually, I will practice once or twice before the camera is turned on, my confidence is high and then, disaster. LOL. A very good and informative video. I will be waiting for part 2. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

Thanks Bob! Yes the camera can be a distraction at times, lol. It's usually trying not to block the view and being able to angle myself in a comfortable and safe position to do the work. Have a great evening!

What I do is with a fresh cut cedar, I put it in pond. The bark will soak up. And peel like a banana.

Thank you kindly! None of the tools were purchased online. The chaisaw was purchased from the local Echo dealer. The peeler from Princess Auto. The chisel is new old stock from a family owened local specialty tool shop. The draw knife is very old that my father passed onto me.
