I might do some talkovers soon...its a confidence thing. I choose bright colours and use dark and light to replicate tones. Lots of guesswork and practise.

Practice makes perfect! It looks like cooler colors are used for the shadows (dark blues, purple, dark orange) and warmer colors are used for the highlights (yellow, pink, cyan(bright blue))

This really caught my eyes. I am a newbie in painting and I supposed to start with woodland in oil but after I saw this video 12 times I changed my mind. Many thanks! Painting bigger can be problematic. Maybe start with a smaller painting to work out composition and colours and then scale it up.

I usually use a very basic set of colours. Lighter colours for highlights and darker for shade. Best to do lots of practice and be patient. Good luck!

No I just paint it as you see in the video. You could try a practice study first and test your colours before you go ahead.

I plan to make something similar to this-- How do I know what colors to pick? I have a very basic idea of color theory and I know I should use colors like blue and purple to contour and contrast the painting. But I fear that trying all sorts of colors together will make it look blotchy and accidental.

The painting is not complicated and no colour theory involved. Mostly guesswork and lighter colours for light areas and the same for darker tones. Give it a go with lots of practice. Good luck!
