Amazing find with the brick. This was the Metropolitan Brick company from Canton OH. They merged with the original Ironrock brick co. in 1902 in Canton. Ironrock started in 1866 in Canton. They are still in business today! The brick you held is about 100 years old!

Nice find. There’s a KZbinr from West VA that has a GoPro with a light on the end of a long pole he uses to explore the many home coal holes that people used to dig enough to heat their homes. I’ll look up his user name and post it. That looked like an independent mine that maybe used a car or truck axle to pull the buggy up.

Are you familiar with with the abutment that’s located in Ashland near big mine run? Up on the abutment there’s a cable I believe there was a mine on the hillside any info on that? There’s another bridge located across the street of 61

Chris for the flint for your safety lamp striker you can use a replacement flint for torch striker you cut the screw on piece cut it length wise with a Dremel cut off wheel just enough so you can split it open to get a whole piece of flint to fit your striker it is the size you need.

Actually the clip that holds the striker on broke. I fixed it with armature wire from a toys motor.
