My late Husband always supported the lifeboats, he enjoyed sea fishing so he knew the sea could be a dangerous place, I have had his name put on the side of the new Whitby lifeboat that is being built, as soon as it comes to whitby I will go and see it

I live a mile away from an RNLI lifeboat station. I've a lot of respect for the RNLI and donate to. Them when I can. I'm old enough to remember the sound of the maroon they used to call the volunteers to the boat before the bleepers they use now and my mom saying that's the lifeboat.

In Gordon Lightfoot's 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' there's a line which says, "Does any one know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours"? I spent 23+ years on ships and there were quite a few occasions when this line sprang to mind. But these guys set out in weather like that to do what ever is necessary for the sake of fellow seafarers. God bless them all.

The seas around Britain are some of the roughest seas in the world especially when the sea is angry. I live on the coast of England and on one of the fastest tidal races in the UK . If you don't know what your doing then there is every chance you can die so your comment about "the sea looks so inviting no matter what the state of the weather" is a rather stupid comment to make really
