Great video. Any chance you could do another one actually showing how you connect the system. I have a house wired with speakers. They are zoned with wall controls. Many of those no longer work. My question is how do I connect. I understand it needs 5 volts but not sure what you doo g with the three of the four wires from the connector. Any help appreciated. Thanks Kevin

Thanks for sharing. Is it supported by BubbleUpnp app also? In theory, it should because Up2Stream supports DLNA, but in practice it might depend on how standards compliant they are, so it's worth testing out. Also, where did you get that nice wifi antenna on the DIY enclosure? By the way, their ready product is called Cobblestone Muso for those who can't DIY. And also they have boards with Bluetooth, but unfortunately Cobblestone doesn't have Bluetooth.

This is a good writeup, thanks. This is an exceptionally in depth video especially at only 8:40. Just some feedback at 3:20, this: "For those of you who do DNLA, this does have DNLA on it, and that's what separates it especially for those of you who DO DNLA." Anyone who didn't might be confused by this explanation. Just a nit, but it helps to explain more (there was time to introduce DNLA, then simply say that's a feature). Cheers

Hey buddy, i have had trouble with my 3.5mm input from the arylic to my inputs on my receiver. I thought it was my rca cables then maybe it was the device not working. I plugged my speakers in on the arylic and bingo it worked. I plugged my 3.55 mm to my phone then to the receiver and bingo it worked. The only thing I can conclude is that the 3.5 mm on the arylic doesn't work? Crazy this is happening on 2 arylic transmitters. Do you have any recommendations? I have a bunch of these. I went nuts with their transmitters. They are great when they work!

can i use this on a sonos play 5 with Recycle Mode activated, and reuse the unit?
@HifiCentret
@HifiCentret 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on how it's done. If I remember correctly the power supplies are separate so they're easy just to reuse. Ideally you'd want to tap in just before the amplifier if there's any way to keep the build in filter for woofer and tweeter. If that's not possible you can always just pair this module up with a class D amplifier off eBay and then you'd need a high/low filter of some sort. There you'll have multiple options. Before amplifier and after amplifier. Before is hardest to do but also gives much more opportinuties. So yes you can surely use it to reuse a play 5 depending on your definition of reuse. IMHO I'd use a bluetooth module instead though. I have a speaker with this Linkplay A31 module in it and always found the WiFi functionality a bit limited. Fine for playing from a few select sources but bluetooth while not a "casting" in same way as linkplay or sonos it's just much more versatile. But hey it's easy just to put two modules in while you're at it. Linkplay and bluetooth ;) Please choose a high quality bluetooth module or your experience will be accordingly ;)

It may be, which is why I suggested the comparison. My gut says there is a similar level of setup with both devices. But the setup is more hardware-based (soldering and fabrication or installation in an enclosure) with Acrylic and more software-based with a Volumio. In my case, I'm only using Volumio as an Airplay receiver. So there's very little to configure.

I highly suspect their AirPlay implementation is unofficial, based on a hacked protocol implementation which is available "out there in the wild". For some time I was in Apple's MFi program, so I know how demanding they could be. For legal AirPlay you need an agreement with Apple, which involves installing a special security chip and also has some very specific rules you have to comply with; for example, such as having an inbuilt speaker in your system, which Arylic clearly doesn't have.

Firstly, services (e.g. Spotify) require premium/paid before they'll let you cast. So there's that. But mostly, DLNA DOESN'T WORK. Lest you think this doesn't matter, for those of us who have collections of music and/or audiobooks -- OR JUST WANT A MECHANISM TO USE WIFI TO STREAM REAL-TIME AUDIO instead of stupid Bluetooth -- this device has a lot of promise, but fails. I was completely unable to get Stream What you Hear to identify/recognize the device. I just want to cast audio, in high fidelity, to other components in other rooms on my network. For those wishing to do the same, this device, unfortunately, doesn't do it. Sonos sucks. Bluetooth sucks. This device... Sigh... I guess it's good for DIY'ers who just want to stream cloud tunes from their phone.

It's definitely not for everyone. I did mention Spotify, because I thought that was something that people should be aware of. When this review came out, I had not tested dnla so I mentioned that I didn't test it. But recently I got a few more pieces of equipment for review. So I enabled dnla from Windows and shared my music folder. I had absolutely no issues with streaming music via DNLA. I would definitely encourage you to check your settings. You shouldn't have issues.

Thanks for thoughtful reply. As a DIY music geek, I do suggest you explore ways to simply stream via WiFi, as mentioned. I'll re-visit DLNA/folder sharing, but -- as you know -- not the same thing playing via smartphone vs. a post-configured stream which has been properly room-equalized via an RTA/Equalizer APO/Peace. For the Love of the seven gods (old/new), please, let's figure out how to do this! Thx for being you.

For me something is killing Sonos when I can have my own High End speakers multiroom in an open source accessible manner. How often do people need to watch the same movie synchronous in multiple rooms? I don´t think it´s a common application. I don´t have Sonos but a friend is complaining about being limited in the applications of his Sonos.

@@karlotto8925 is not about watching a movie in multiple rooms, the ideea is to use it as wireless speakers so you can connect as many as you want in any location, and more important, you will use more than 2 speakers for a movie, and thats where it will fail

Had a brief stint with wireless audio by way of a *Dayton Audio WFA02* Their Hi-Fly app looks like a clone of Muzo. The reason I stopped is because WiFi audio experience ≠ Bluetooth audio experience. With Bluetooth if you have capable devices you enable them and hear sound. With WiFi audio you can stream some things but not others. I can't just start the laptop, put on a movie and have its audio streamed wirelessly to a set of speakers in the house. It requires software, and no software I've tried (all of them) could do it reliably without delay. So, to recap. In order to play wirelessly you need: 1. WiFi router 2. WiFi audio receiver WFA02 3. Dayton Audio Hi-Fly app (which is crap) 4. Hi-Fly configs 5. VB Cable 6. VB Cable configs and quick-switching helpers 7. foo_out_upnp (for example using Foobar) 9. foo_record 10. Foobar configs and accelerators The processing and network overhead must be horrendous. When the network was under heavy load playback was affected! To play wired you need 1. audio cable Regular folks abuse tech with wild abandon but I like to think I value frugality. This was going to bug me to no end so I stopped.

There are limitations with wireless audio, as well as wired and Bluetooth. Fo instance, Bluetooth is great if you want to send it to one device. But if you want to hook up multiple rooms, Bluetooth isn't capable of doing that. Wired is great and you can hook up multiple rooms, but you have to have those hooked up wherever you run the wires to. So you're limited in placement and you have to wire your house for it. So it's always a trade-of, you just have to figure out what trade-offs are most important for you

@@Toid If you notice in the list, the problems come from lack of adequate software on Windows. On Mac with AirPlay you _can_ stream desktop audio without lag, I'm told. Our household problem now is we have a Miracast pocket projector and we need to connect an audio cable, run it over the couch to the opposite wall where the amp and speakers are. We considered moving the amp (too unwieldy to have it on the couch side), going wireless (how?) and strapping a band of concealable audio tape around the room (pretty involved, don't own the apartment). When not projecting the audio cable is plugged into the laptop, near a corner of the room. Do you have any suggestions for simplifying this kind of set-up? Thanks for the reply!

Tim Wilson i still like the chromecast audio because it’s easy to set up and works everywhere… price is about he same at $35. can this unit support chromecasts? also, i’d prefer an ethernet jack so you don’t bog down your wireless access point with streams going to all of your different zones / rooms at the same time ... at least with Chromecast audio device you can connect through ethernet using adapter and free up your Wi-Fi access point.

One big problem is that it connects ONLY via 2.4Ghz. No 5Ghz, no Ethernet. Sorry, 2.4Ghz is unreliable interference prone overloaded garbage. Would be nice if companies making products like this (and other IOT type stuff) would start recognizing that and offer other options. Hardwire Ethernet would be most reliable.

Another is that it seems to *require* using a specific proprietary app on a smartphone to set it up. I don't see an option to use a regular web browser on a regular PC for setup/configuration. This is not DIY friendly at all. Its just a cheaper version of sonos that you have to wire yourself.

@@r6u356une56ney they have a bunch of new product since this one has released. They do offer ethernet and a 3.5 mm input jack and Bluetooth. But using a 3.5 mm Jack or Bluetooth, you can stream virtually anything.
