I did my first solo when I was almost 16 in a c172n, I was pretty scared, my landing won’t perfect back then and I was not confident talking to my class e airspace radio controller, but I lived through it, even though I ballooned the landing it was still one of the most memorable days of my life after so many years, the water on my head felt great after couple gallons of sweat haha. @@RyanSmith-xh2ft When they cut mine off I was told that it was because back in the day when instructors were in the back seat rather than side to side with no or limited avionics, they would tug the back of their students shirt to tell them something, but after the solo they cut it off because they don't need to tug the back of the shirt anymore. Also if you join the military especially the air force they give you grants to do activity they deem productive and help the Air Force/military. Most people get grants to pay college tuition but I know people who haves used it to get there private pilots License. Talk to a air force recruiter.

RobotVoice, joining the military is usually an 8 year commitment, and the risk of dying in the military is on average 2.5 times higher than regular people. If you don’t die, there is still a significant risk of getting ptsd. I personally know and have spoken to people in the army, including a brigadier general, who said that he saw many friends get killed in combat, which would certainly traumatize most people I would think. Also, would you really want to give up such a significant time in your life? Suppose you join the military after high school. You enlist at 18, and your contract expires when you are 26. Now, you still have no education. Suppose you want a college education. I know the military will pay it, but after getting a 4 year degree let’s say at an aviation university, you will be 30, and ready to start the workforce. By then, most of your friends will have already established themselves financially, and you will just be starting out. Of course, you could just do a 2 year accelerated ATPL program without a degree, but that also means, that if for whatever reason you don’t pass class 1 medical certificate, let’s say your vision drops below 20/20. Now, you can’t be a pilot anymore, and you have to get another job, but you don’t have a degree, and your options are quite limited. Overall, the military is not worth it. If you want to be a pilot, your best option is going to an aviation university if you can afford it. Many of them are relatively expensive, however, they give you a 4 year degree, and the required certifications to become an airline pilot. Another great option if you can’t afford aviation university, is to get a regular degree, and work for several years to save up money. Then, you could go to an accelerated flight program like ATP flights such, which costs around 80k, and gives you an ATPL license.

A private pilots license is the first step towards getting the ATPL license to becoming an airline pilot, and it means that his training as an adult would be much shorter. Also, professional flight schools that train people to be airline pilots, typically charge far more money than regular general aviation flight schools do, so it’s in fact better to spend the money at 16, then later on.

Pink Neck I looked it up and it says because back in earlier days the instructor would sit in the back and tug on the short tail and yell in the students ear and by cutting off the shirt tail it shows they no longer need the instructors help
