Russell now runs a elite training center called the Minion Training Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His center produces some amazing talent and some of the best wrestlers in the area go there to train including some of my teammates.

I want to say Lee looks injured, but then you see him go into a full split with no effort. No idea what's wrong with him, he just might not have the fire within him right now.

Some of the Iowa blogs referred to a “mono-like” illness he was dealing with. He’s clearly not healthy, but he doesn’t want to make excuses. Should be fine by March, back to smashing everyone.

thad anderson Not his normal level of confidence. He’s just been off the last 3 matches. Not much scoring off his counters, slower to escape, easier to get to his legs, not shooting as much. Obviously, not tilting as much. 15-0 win over Russell last year. All the same, he is progressing back to where he needs to be. I still think he’ll be the NCCA champ.

That match is more typical of a college wrestling match between two top rated guys. What makes Lee special is that he'd treat top rated guys the same way he did high school wrestlers, tech falling and pinning them like it was nothing. In this match, he was very measured, which is a good thing, because I've seen him being gassed after the first period. Here, he looked in control in the sense that he knew he could always counter Russell's shots. Still, I expected more offense from Lee.

Unless Lee can regain the mojo he displayed last year in the NCAA tournament, Sebastian Rivera must be favored to win the 125 LB title. I can hardly wait to see them meet in the Iowa/Northwestern dual meet.

It’s rare you see Lee in a low scoring slow pace match. Especially in big matches. Either he comes out smashing scoring the most points in the nation but Some times he gives up a takedown early in a big match and starts slow then makes him pay by getting a go behind and grinding them out on top putting points up which makes the other guy get desperate and have to open up on the feet which opens up a lot of counter shots for him and even more points!

I notice Spencer scores early in the 1st period and then camouflages the stall nicely the rest of the way on tuff opponents. Alot of falls in the 1st period also, so when ever you see him in the 3rd period he always looks winded. The way to beat him, seems to keep him from scoring early, because he will tire late in the match.
