I think the reason why Smash Deaths are in a separate category of deaths is because almost all crushing objects(except for Whimp and Bouldergeist’s hands) kill you instantly. No matter how much health you have, even if you have the Life Mushroom.

The credits still play in the background, but all you will see is a black screen. About 2-3 minutes later you will see the "The End" screen appear shortly, followed by Mario/Luigi (whichever you played as) say "Thank you for playing my game."
