I liked watching you use mixed media in your painting. The addition of the dog was a good one.

Pat, I enjoy watching your painting videos very much. I tried my hand with abstract painting of three ladies. For my first try, I wasn’t terribly displeased. It’s hanging on my studio wall and I may go back into it and add some details after looking at it for a while. I appreciate how generous you are with your knowledge of painting abstractly. I love watching your process. Thank you for such creative, informative lessons❤️

Hello Pat, thank you again. I learned a lot today: Using Posca pens for some of the outlines as this way I can see how much clearer this is than chalk Not to let the colours do the work Check my values and make sure there is a balance when using high contrast colours and shapes. Using paper cut outs to test shapes and dimensions. Painting loose of course, but am having a problem with this! Loving the Golden liquid teal! It is such a joy to use. Transparent paint over opaque. Beautiful! Your balance of fluid and heavy body paints. Thanks a million for doing this ! You are the bees’ knees 🧡

Very inspiring! I am doing my first one in Sydney, Australia wondering if you define the composition with chalk before adding the collages
@pattscrivenerartist5 ай бұрын
You can do the collage either way. Sometimes I add collage in my initial layers are a surprise element and sometimes nearer the end as a more specific feature. Have fun!

Pat, your artwork is absolutely amazing and beautiful. What is the writing called that you do on your paintings and what’s the reason behind it for you? I do writing on my canvas’ before I paint. I didn’t know it had a name. 😊 I’ve never painted anything like these paintings I find it hard for me . Thank you for sharing. Here from Texas USA
@pattscrivenerartist9 ай бұрын
The writing is called asemic - it looks like writing but no legible words. I sometimes start my painting with journaling and then paint over most of it. The purpose is to add another element- it can tread as pattern or optical texture. I often write thoughts that come up while working n my painting but don’t necessarily want them to be legible.

I use Golden acrylics (mostly). I need to get better at glazing. What medium do you use and how do you mix your glazing paint?
@pattscrivenerartist9 ай бұрын
I use either Golden airbrush medium or GAC 100 if I want to thin my paint. You can use glazing liquid if you want the paint to dry slow. If you use acrylic fluid paint and it is transparent I find it thin enough for glazing. Hope that helps.

what gives you the inspiration for these pieces? They're so interesting to look at and your work is incredible.

It’s just my imagination in most cases. Occasionally I use photo references as a jumping off point.

Do you always use neutral colors for the background around the figures
@pattscrivenerartist9 ай бұрын
Yes generally I do. I find using a neutral makes the colours pop out!
