Thanks for the great advice. Paddling the entire Columbia would be epic! I’ve windsurfed the past 25 years out of Hood River, Oregon on the Columbia. Always looking for new water toys. Your 12ft Deep looks fast. I’ve paddled my friends 12ft Bark and that got me interested in different board options. You mentioned since I was 6-1 I might get more glide out of a XL-100kg size board if my arms were long enough? Do the bigger size 10-6 race boards get wider or thicker/higher deck to distribute the added volume, or do they stay around 20” in width? They list the weight on the L and XL Clubbie boards but not their volume in liters. Any idea on volume? Thanks again, l can’t find any specs on the clubbie boards. Dustin

Hello IronPhil, I live in California and have the opportunity to buy a Dolphin or JM 10’-6” prone paddle board. I’ll be mainly paddling short downwinders on the Columbia River in the Summer. It blows hard and usually has decent 1-3 foot rollers. Ideally, I’ll paddle/ride on the coast in small conditions as well. I’m 6’-1” and weigh 84kg. They have M-80kg, L-90kg, and XL-100kg boards. What size would work best for my area/conditions? Does a XL size board paddle/feel a lot different than a medium volume board? XL board more stable? Thanks for your time and info. Dustin

G'day Dustin the Dolphin & JM are made by the same Company as my 12ft DEEP board. I'd be going for the L-90kg for your weight but in saying that your 6'1'' you may have long arms so the XL-100kg will be floatier but the glide will be longer. IF I was you I'd be getting my hands on the 12ft DEEP Prone Paddleboard they are such a magic and super fast board with awesome glide - The Columbia river looks like bulk fun to paddle is a Bucket List Dream of mine to paddle her one day. The 10'6'' are a SLS Clubbie board great for competing in Surf Lifesaving Carnivals but for downwind they suit the lightweight young guns better or the hardcore Australian Ironman Series. If you really wanna paddle 10'6'' I'd get the Lifeguard Cracker Paddleboard they are Bulk stable super fast and very easy to knee paddle on.

Great vid. What is the difference between Mal raceboards and Prone paddling.. Do you prefer this to SUP

G'day Kev I've never seen a Mal raceboard. - I like doing both Prone & SUP I have three 18ft Downwind SUP boards. Some Trivia Prone paddling supplements SUP paddling But SUP paddling does not supplement Prone paddling.

DEEP in Burleigh Waters Queensland Australia are leading the way in 12ft & 18ft Prone Downwind Paddleboards - if you can find Adrian Burse in Currumbin he also makes a good 18ft Prone Paddleboard Adrian made all of Jamie Mitchells Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboards I had two 18ft Prones of Adrian and they where Gems.
