My brother had several different F bodies! His 79 Z28 had a stroker 406 (custom length rods, amber lightweight pistons 11/1 compression with a th400 with a new valve body, shift kit, 3500 stall, 373 gears, Holley 750 double pumper w/manual secondaries. Adding a stroker kit to a 400 is def the way to go! I read a article years ago about the 400 sb & it said by simply boring it .030 over to a 406, it would have 750 hp & torque. I forget all the info in his 400, the lift & duration but, I know it had aftermarket alluminum heads 202/160, red anodized roller rockers & man was it fast & strong!!! On any on ramp, it would hit well over 160 mph before we hit the interstate! It was built by a local machine shop for his son but, due to life & legal issues/needing bond, 5he car went up for sale & my brother bought it. It was NICE. I had seen it a few times as a kid, it was always a show car at different events. His son blew up his motor so they built the stroker 406 & that's when they had to sell it. We had a lot of fun in that car! Every bolt was a high polished 12 point bolt. It was red with black trim.

I feel your pain, I'm at a similar point with my truck. January I went 13.000 in great air with a tight converter. I went to slightly looser converter (3200) But, the weather was not nearly as good in March. I slowed to 13.08 despite it 60 footing almost .1 better. Fast forward, about a month ago that converter kept having the bolts back out despite red loctite and proper TQ specs. I swapped to yet another converter (3800) and am waiting for cooler weather and hurricane season to end here in FL. I'm also working on getting some more weight out during my down time. I'd like to see you knock at least 100 lbs off of that car without chopping it up. I'll be anxiously waiting to see the results of your track trip. Please start keeping track of the density altitude when you make hits or track runs. I think that will be great for helping you validate your results better.

My 68 Satellite is a traction monster. I'm down to a 1.8 60 foot on the stock converter, stock suspension and cheap street tires and I can make the car dead hook on the street at night with cold tires by just swatting it halfway then going full throttle after it moves a hair. A Tesla Model S Plaid 60 foots in about 1.7 so I'm running with some of the fastest cars on the road from stoplight to stoplight.
@evilinside598418 күн бұрын
Although a 1.80 60 ft is very good on the street, the Tesla Plaids i have seen, run Low 1.60s to high 1.5s on the street, & will leave a 1.80 60 ft vehicle, like its tied to a stump, no offense. A 1.80 60 ft., will most likely do a 12 sec. 1/4 mile, to a high 11 sec., while a Plaid doing a 1.60 60 ft., will then pour on the juice towards a 150 Mph trap speed, into the 9 second range, in the 1/4 mile. I ❤️Muscle cars, but Plaids are super quick!

Entirely should be determined by the designed rpm range of your camshaft. These are crucial only for bettering your launch characteristics and your 60 foot times. I would begin with the numbers on your torque curve from a dyno pull and would begin my launch motion about 750-1000 rpm of the torque curve . This also should coincide with the rated stall speed of a given converter. And if you are running any type of an HEI ignition if you do not have plug wires #5 & #7 completely separated from begin to end it can take your ign. module out as soon as the next time you go to start that beast up. I put the longest wire ccw around the cap to afford segregation of them-

What rear gear are you running and is tha a lockout converter? My 305 sbc Vortec with a 700R4 and 3.73 rear gears ran 14.0s in the QM with low 2.0s 60 ft times at about 96 MPH. With a 3,000 stall lockout converter. The engine had the factory Vortec roller cam, 1.6:1 roller rockers, an Edelbrock RPM Airgap dual plane intake with a Edelbrock 600 carb. It is a '64 Buick Skylark that weighs 3,400 lbs without me in it. With a better cam a bit more compression you should break under 14s. Do a little bowl blending and chamber deshrouding should be good for a few more tenths. Swap on a genuine imitation RPM Airgap dual plane intake and you'll probably pickup a bit more if you have the hood clearance? On the Bay of e there are factory sbc roller cam regrinds available that are priced a lot more reasonable than a new one, a couple hundred less. They have many performance grinds available but if you can't find what you want they can probably grind one for you to your specs? They're out of Texas. I wouldn't go to large with the cam or you'll probably run slower. I would try to keep the duration at .050" no more than 220 on the intake and no more than 230 on the exhaust unless you have a 4 series gear to get it moving off the line until the RPM gets into the power range and plan on over 10:1 compression. With those heads with no porting with a lift of just over .500" you will make your max HP about 6,400 RPM so if you choose your cam that the max rpm range is 6,000 to 6,500 that would be just right. Just remember that factory hydraulic roller lifters don't like to rev more than 6,500 RPM. I didn't know you're in Michigan, me too. Where abouts are you, I'm about 20 miles north of Detroit.😎👍

Also prob the biggest motor change to add power to the 305 is heads. The 305 heads suck, I'd go aftermarket or maybe set vortec heads milled down to raise compression.
