But you can do a very solid tune (especially on a low boost setup) using the stock ECU and hptuners which is about a $400 investment in an MPVI3 and license and $100 for new map sensor. Obviously most people will also have to pay a tuner to actually tune the car too.

I remember the old days (up to early 90's v8's. U just built em, slapped em in and made hp. Add turbo or sc as u wish. No expensive ecu, fi, etc. but still optional. .. only thing better wouldve been mass produced, aluminum small and big blocks. Why is the LS so much more wonderful, besides standard fi(?

I hear about broken exhaust bolts. I fixed these by ob-longing the manifold hole, smooth top, flat washer to allow headers, turbo logs, OEM manifolds cannot move as much as aluminum heads. I fixed hundreds at dealer and saw this repair last 250k + miles. Best of luck. ASE Master tech, retired.

A lot of people do that and mess something up then blow it up at like 6psi and blame the motor when the rod comes apart and then everyone jumps on the “it cant be done” bandwangon and everyone needs to buy rod bolts, studs, and a bunch of other useless shit……. Meanwhile there are a ton of us around for years and years making over 700whp and beating them to death with no failures. The ongoing joke is just put it in the car and “dont let the magic out”. 👍

At 6psi, you could save a bunch of money by ditching the charge cooler and all it's piping too! Granted, IF you had plans to twist it up more it'd be needed - but then you'll have to start gapping rings, etc etc.

I've never use hotshot oil but I did use their diesel treatment for my diesel jeep that has an ecu issue that prevents proper glow plug operation. They claim it helps cold starts. It absolutely does. It starts 100x better. I thought it was a fluke so I didn't add any on one tank last winter and it wouldn't start the next morning.

Even though that's an LS class, I believe that's the L83, used in the Tahoe, Suburban Yukon/XL, and Escalade. Also a detuned version in the 2006-08 Chevy Impala SS, Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, and rare Buick Lacrosse Super. Besides the 3800 and 4.3L V6s, one of GM's most venerable motors.

Rule of thumb. never ever wash an engine in or out of the car. any outside pressure from water can easily seep its way into any gaskets, electrical connections/wires, and any crevices. ive seen too many idiots do this and they have some issues.

Everyone please notice they did not change the cam. If you change the cam in a high mileage engine you have to change the cam bearings.

The d.o.d. should have been done as well. Those engines are getting 315k miles without efm/dod. Mine is currently 203k and counting on no rebuild.

Well, if you're gonna drop 2+ grand on a turbo kit you'd probably want to do MLS gaskets and add ring gap. Probably would be quite a bit more reliable.

Remember, everyone: the $500 LS swap only impies the cost of the engine, not the rest of the stuff needed to make the swap and make it run. That said, the $500 LS did run and made 500 HP.

for literally $400 more you could easily be pushing 600+. Pac1218, regular LS lifters from a junkyard, and a SS2 cam would get that more reliable and more power. Why stop short when you're so close to the finish line?

That engine will hold 15 psi indefinitely if you aren’t an idiot tuning and it will hold 20-25 psi with ring gap, M355 oil pump and a cam /spring change.

An 800hp turbo ls is not "nasty" a very streetable stage 2 cam and springs, a 7875 at 14psi will make 800 for a very long time and be very tame.

As I said in another comment there are hundreds of examples of the sloppy combos making stupid power using cheap stuff and living. Lots of these guys that are "doing it right" are still sitting there with their shit on jack stands years later because they are waiting on the ARP oil pump pickup tube bolts.

A small exhaust manifold bolts are clearly planned obsolescence. It just took a little bit longer back then. Now things break a lot sooner... If you're an idiot who makes a payment everyday well I guess if you can afford it and you like that warranty a little a Ford escape they give you when your truck break. That's cool. I'd rather just turn a wrench a few times a year and save thousands annually... Insurance and sales/excise tax is also less.
