One of the other major decisions not to go 48v system is Victron doesn’t have a 48v 2x120 Multiplus yet. So that was a big factor. Victron Orion 24/12 converter- www.amazon.com/dp/B01BF5BQLA/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_YW1ND4F0D143VGE9MWHJ?linkCode=ml2&tag=saltystrikes-20

I went with a 48v system on my Jayco Seneca with 2000 watts of PV, wired in series. I segregated the 12v chassis charging system from the 48v system. I either charge the 48v batteries from Shore, PV or the Generator. I did lose the capability to use the coach batteries to jump start chassis batteries, but I can use other means of jump starting if necessary. Generator starts off the chassis batteries. I use 3 Victron 30 amp 48v to 12v controllers ran in parallel to run the 12v loads. So far so good! Watching your videos helped me answer some questions I had on running two Multiplus II inverters. Thank you for the help.

If you remember you inspired me to build my system much like yours. Just got back from a 2 month western US trip NM,CO,UT,ID,WY,NE,KS,MO, OK and back to TX. All worked out great, can’t wait to get back. I’m waiting on cable to add another Litime 24V 200Ah. That’ll make 600Ah total. Excellent points on going with higher voltage system.

@@Retired..Mostly wow you were making thr rounds, thats awesome. That’s one of the great things about this system, you don’t have to get it all at once, you can add as you go over time. Keep up posted on your build.

Great video! I am in the early planning stages for our new 2019 Tiffin 45 Bus to get solar onboard. I definitely want to go 48v. I did a 48v system at my off-grid cabin and it works great. The motorhome is a bit scary for me to try and retrofit solar into it, but I learn something new with each video like this one. Thanks

What are your thoughts ..adding an additional 24v alternator dedicated to assist in charging 3 460 Ah batteries ..I,m trying to use shore power or generator or the separate 24v alternator to charge the 460ah batteries [ while driving] I was trying not to disturb the roof of the motorhome ... my goal like a lot of folks is to be able to run one a/c during the night if i'm some place that running the generator would be inappropriate ..thanks Glenn

@@GlennShay if you have room in the engine bay that would be a good option, easier option would just tap into your 12v alternator with a 12/24 converter like this amzn.to/46GBvPy

Chris, why so much 12v output? The oem breakers for the trailer are 50 amd 30 amps. The 50 feeds the 30 as well. So really 12v 30 amps for most connections to the fuse box. I'm just curious. Wouldn't a 24v to 12v 50 amp converter be sufficient.

@@woodie44309 Breaker are 120 volt AC (alternating current) , 12 volt DC (direct current) is complete separate system. 120v at 30a is 3600 watts 12v at 30a is 360 watts Heres the video explaining why I have parallel 24/12v converter kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4eTeYqlmLakiKcsi=fORpLePihFyKXFuI

@saltytrips the "breakers" I'm referring to are the 12v auto resetting breakers. That's what they're called. One is 50amp the other 30amp. They most certainly make DC breakers. I have a few. Steve C here by the way!!

@@woodie44309 most 5th wheels and Travel trailers don’t have OEM DC breakers, they are almost always fused and not breakers. We use DC breakers between owr PV controllers and distributor and also between the 24/12v converter to distributor as shown in the video. Breaker size isn’t random, You always use a breaker to protect the wire, typically 1.25 times load max capacity.

@@saltytrips every keystone has the 50 and 30 amp auto resetting 12v breakers near the batteries. They're the little red boxes that the battery cable attaches to right from the battery. I'm just curious why the 2-70 amp converters. It seems excessive. Most of the trailer is fed from the 30 amp. That has the wire that goes to the fuse box. The 50 amp is jumped to the 30 and I believe the breakaway is the only item connected to that.

@@woodie44309 nope, as I stated before this explains the amp choice kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4eTeYqlmLakiKcsi=Pj5CmV6XdQP97UOU
