Unless you are working with stretch bolts which would only be in a head gasket application, typically, you just need a general idea of what torque you need for any particular fastener. 98 ft pounds I round to 100, scary i know. Wheels call for 100 ft pounds I will put 110 on them just to make sure; pure rebel. I want the spec, but I will round up slightly and never down. You get a feel for proper tightness over time.

Thank you for the video but I have one important question. I actually have a 2002 altima 3.5 SE with ABS brakes. On another video I saw that the mechanic opened the bleeder screw before pushing the caliper piston back (She said all brakes with ABS has to be bled). Here though, it seems like you said to open the brake fluid reservoir cap before pushing back the caliper and closing it after it's been pushed back. Am I understanding this correctly? So I don't have to open the bleeder screw? Thank you for this awesome helpful video!

You DO NOT need to bleed the brake line. If you know what you're doing thats up to you if you want to bleed it but most people dont know how to do it correctly and end up causing the car to have no brakes at all. Ive done it hundreds of times without bleeding the line. Just push the piston in to fit the pads. It'll be ok 👍

u only need to bleed if you open up the lines. changing the pads does not open the lines. changing the caliper for instance does open the lines, therefore bleeding is needed

No, the green grease and purple grease I don't use on rubber. Buy sil Glyde or dielectric grease for the slide pins

Speaking of your wife...A quick funny and disheartning story. My girlfriend asked me to change her brakes. I did so. And 2 days later she ran into a pot hole to which i added the spare onto at her request. So 1 day later she took it in to get four new tires anyway and the dude tried to bs her by telling her that she needed new pads all the way around. Now mind you i had colored coded the pads with High-temp paint in case this happened and told her the color. So she asked the guy to show her the brake pad. He used a one they apparently had laying around....She told him: For one: My boyfriend just changed the pads and two: those are NOT the pads that are supposed to be on the car. She complained to the manager and vowed to never go back to that national chain. And yes she did check before going to make sure that color codes were still on the pads.I told her to bring her car back and I will buy her the four new tires somewhere else to ease her mind.

All this videos are missing the very important part of adjusting the air brake fluid before putting the tire back up
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 Жыл бұрын
This video isn't missing that. When doing brakes there's no reason to mess with the brake fluid

Thank you I’m not a mecanic, the way I was told was by releasing the little fluid by pushing the master cylinder that wasted should be fill up on top to prevent any air in the system, correct me if I could be wrong, thanks

You can just push is the pistons like I showed in the video. For an inexperienced person, opening the brake line can lead to your brakes not working
@sheldoncorey6363

I noticed you didn't put any lubrication on the face of the caliper piston, caliper ears or the shims that are mounted to the brake pads. Is this your normal practice? Shouldn't all metal to metal contact be lubricated to help alleviate brake noise? After all, it is your girl friends car and surely you don't want any complaints of that nature.
@themechanic6117
@themechanic6117 6 жыл бұрын
You can lubricate those areas if you want but all it does is collect and hold dirt. I normally don't lube those parts and never had issue with noise complaints. I do lots of brake jobs and so far no problems. I've seen cars that someone else lubed like crazy and the dirt is just caked on. From factory none of those parts come lubricated and all new cars have no brake noise but like I said your free to lube it of you'd like.
