When your holding a buffalo nickel hoping to be a millionaire

I believe 2-Feather varieties occur when you have clashed dies. When the field of the coin is lapped (sanded/abraded) to remove the image transfer from the opposite die (the die has an incuse image), the abrading removes some of the surface, or field (think of using sandpaper to remove scratches from a piece of wood.) Because some images are real shallow on a die, they will disappear during the abrading process. The small feather is a low relief image, and because it is low relief, if the cleaning up of the die is really aggressive, you will have a completely removed small feather. For a 2-1/2 feather Buffalo Nickel, only light abrading was needed to remove the clashed die marks, so the whole small feather incuse design was not completely removed.

1913 was the first year of mintage for the Buffalo Nickel. James Earl Fraser is the designer of both the obverse (front), and reverse (back) of the coin. When Teddy Roosevelt was President, he wanted more artistic designs for our coinage. Fraser's designs were picked for the the 5-cent nickel. There are two varieties of the 1913 Buffalo Nickel. The first variety placed the Buffalo on a mound. The mint marks from Denver (D) and San Francisco (S) were placed on the mound, below the 'FIVE CENTS'. A few months after production of the Buffalo Nickel, Mint Officials realized there would be too much wear of the letters on the mound, causing them to disappear. The solution to this problem was to design a mound that would protect the words FIVE CENTS, and the mint marks. This was achieved by removing some of the mound, and putting the letters into the removed area: this is Variety II, or the Lined Mound variety. Because the 'Lined Mound' variety was minted later in 1913, there are not as many coins minted. These are the rarer of the two varieties. The San Francisco, Variety II coin is a key coin in the Buffalo Nickel series.

Yes but there are still tons of fully dated ones. The most worn one I found in a bag of 253+ roll of 22 is a partial date 1919. All the rest were mostly full dates.

@CoinOppLtd7 жыл бұрын
+Rhonda Vaughn it's most likely real. 1927 is. Fairly common date. If you can still see all of the date on it then it's worth 50 cents to a dollar.
